He called and she asked if I'd been having any contractions. I'd been having pretty mild ones all night, but that had been going on for weeks. She told me to have some tea and try and rest since labor could starts any minute or it could be 24 hours. The minute DH got off the phone with her my contractions picked way up. I told DH he needed to set up the birth pool and clean up the kitchen. You can see the kitchen from the dining room which is where we were setting the tub up and I did not want to be in labor and looking at dirty dishes. I remember telling him I didn't care if he put them in the oven, just get them off the counter.

While DH was doing that I was trying to get hold of my friend who was going to watch DD. She wasn't answering texts or calls and I was freaking out. I finally got hold of her and she told me she's lost her phone and had heard it, but couldn't find it. I have no idea why I remember that. DH left to drop DD off and I tried to read. I sat on the toilet thinking that would help, but they were really starting to hurt. I remember almost crying at one point and throwing my book across the room. I feel bad about that now b/c it was a good book, plus it was a library book. At some point I decided I need water and managed to leave the bathroom and get in the shower off the master bedroom (the hot water lasts longer there b/c the water pressure is crappy and I needed hot water). Contractions were really intense at this point and I just wanted DH and to get into the tub. Too bad DH just set it up and not filled it before he left. We both thought I'd be in labor for awhile (why we thought this I have no idea b/c DD was my first and I was only in labor for 5-6 hours). DH got home and I realised he'd only been gone for 20 minutes, even though it felt like an hour. I told him we needed to fill the pool and to get me my bathing suit. I managed to get into the top and bottom and then DH told me I needed to turn the shower off if I wanted the pool filled up. I was so upset b/c I knew it'd be awhile before the pool would be filled up and I need water on me.

I got int the pool while DH filled it up and had the hose running over my belly which helped a little bit. Our water heater is really small so DH put some water on to boil. During contractions I needed him to stand by the pool and just be there. No touching, no talking just there. The whole time we'd have to turn the hose off b/c the water would be running cold. Poor DH was running around like crazy between filling new pots with water, dumping them, turning the hose on and off and standing by me. I started to feel really pushy, but since I'd only been in labor an hour or so I didn't think there was any way and I just ignored it. This is when I told DH 2 or 3 times that I wanted an epidural. Looking back I realise I was in transition, but then I was just thinking how stupid having this kid at home was b/c there were no drugs and I NEEDED DRUGS. Somewhere in here I started to feel really pushy and told DH who made me take my swimsuit bottoms off. OMG hardest thing ever. The contractions were so close that I ended up having to move during one of them to get it off and I now hate bathing suits. A little before 2am I realised I was pushing for real and told DH to call the midwife now. He called and they were still on the interstate, but started driving faster and told DH to call back as if I started pushing a lot. This is where things got blurry so this is mostly from what DH told me. Apparently as soon as he hung I asked if he could see the head and yeah, there was a lot of baby head. This is probably where our cell phone got dropped in the pool (the w key still doesn't work). I started freaking out at this point b/c it hurt. A lot. I stood up and pushed a few more times and DH was freaking out b/c the head was out, but nothing else. Apparently he thought this was bad, but I was in no condition to tell him it was fine. One more push and the baby was out. The cord was wrapped around her neck and I was standing really weird so DH spun her around, unwrapped the cord and we had our baby. I collapsed in the now gross pool, DH handed the baby to me and toweled us up and we just kept looking at each, completely speechless. I think the first thing we said was "I can't believe that just happened."

We called our moms, the midwives showed up a few minutes later, checked us out, made me food and cleaned up, made sure things were ok and left. We were all in bed and cozy for about an hour before we came down off our high and went to sleep. DH picked DD (and Arby's for lunch!) the around 11am that day and she loved her baby. Labor was only 100 minutes and a lot easier than I thought. I'm so thrilled with how our birth. I cannot wait to do it again.

Congrats, from one speedy homebirther to another! Isn't it so intense and surreal? How awesome that your DH instinctively understood how to unwrap the cord! What a great story. Welcome, little baby!
