I saw this on the other Abeka thread and am curious. Could someone explain why they think it's anti Catholic? I am only familiar with the lower grades so I haven't seen anything that is obvious to me. Not looking for a fight - just honestly wondering!

I think any materials written from a fundamentalist Christian point of view are going to be anti-Catholic to some extent. I have heard their science and history texts have an anti-Catholic bias. You know- Martin Luther rules, the Catholics were evil sort of thing.

I just know that my Catholic catalogs don't carry Abeka. I've heard their math program is good. Some very conservative Catholics in our HS group use it for math. I am using Rod&Staff for grammar. It is anti-Catholic (Menonite), but it's not like I would use them for reading or history or religion.KWIM? I personally don't thinnk that everything my dc lay their hands on have to be somehow related to our faith. My dd has commented on how she loves to guess the prnounciation of the names in Singapore math. It actually annoys me that they call the new addition U.S.-with less foreign names. : I mean I live in the midwest, and I can hear Spanish,French,Vietnamese all while visiting a store. My brother and sister have used Abeka for their schooling. A friend of the family (Catholic) found some things he found to be extremely disturbing in the high school world history text I believe. (I can check if you want)

It was very "Catholics were evil" (which we were at times) Also according to him, there were some historical facts that were not described factually. Ex: Stating a gov person died, when if fact the had committed suicide as a result of what was going on at the time.

I am still looking into their texts though.

I assisted in homeschooling my brother and found it well organized and very complete....at least for the elementry studies.

I've seen their math stuff in some Catholic catalogs. I just wouldn't want my money to go to a company that didn't respect my beliefs.
