I know it's not where at all I was looking originally, but a friend of mine told me about this small great house for sale...we will going to look at it tomorrow. Does anyone have any scoop? The Russian population is pretty small, it's mostly Italian though....

i grew up in aberdeen, and i don't know what you're looking for? a russian community? italian? i don't really understand, but i can tell you that it is a pretty diverse community--many synagogues, different denominational churches, economically and racially diverse, pretty GLBT friendly. there are good public and several good nearby private schools, but i don't know if it's a great fit for many MDC mamas, as i don't think it is at all "crunchy"--the farmlands i grew up with have all gone the way of the strip mall. it's about 45 minutes by car or train to NYC, and about 15 minutes to the nearest beach. if there's anything else you want to know, ask!

I'm starting to think that it's hard to find a place that would be great for MDC mamas... I'll settle for "good".

How safe is the neigbborhood?

it's been a while since i lived there, and it depends on the neighborhood, but i think in general, it's really safe. i never see anything in the papers about crime, and my folks friends who still live there leave their doors unlocked. it's about 15-20 minutes from red bank, too, which is a sweet little town that's pretty crunchy. also, most neighborhoods have their own park, which is great, there is a public swimming pool, strathmore movie theatre is an indie/art theater and i've never had a better bagel than the ones at elis bagles.

Strathmore isn't really an indie/art theater anymore, but they are the cheapest movies in the area. They actually had free kids movies over the summer. I don't live in Aberdeen, but I'm right next door in Old Bridge. While I wouldn't consider the area crunchy, there are lots of good things about it. The Shoprite in aberdeen is my favorite. They have babysitting there for 2+ and my daughter loves going there and it makes my shopping much easier. The employees go out of their way to help. Whole foods is about 15-20 minutes from there.

I have seen more babywearing and breastfeeding while out in the last couple of years. Or I may just be noticing it more.

I'm glad to hear good things from you mamas, I'm going to see the house this weekend. My DH already saw it and it has pros and some cons. Pros:
1.Walking distance to Aberdeen/Matawan Train Station
2.1/2 acre of land backyard
3.Park across the street
4.Completely renovated kitchen and bathroom

Cons:
1.A little too small. Very small living room area.
2.Just aesthetically not appealing from outside, looks ugly from outside and lonely/isolated. (I guess it's not that big of a con)
3.Russian Community is not large so I don't know if I will be able to find daycare.

I will let you know mamas how it went. I would be glad to have an MDC mama who lives near by.

This summer up and down Rt 9 there were people parked on the side of the road that said RussianMarlboro.com I have no clue if the site is still up but it is worth a look at. I also know on Rt 9 in Manalapan there is a daycare/preschool that is Russian owned (there sign is in Russian and English) I wish I could help more on Aberdeen the only perk I know of is the train station other then that I dont know much about it.

We went to see 2 houses today: one in Aberdeen and one in Old Bridge. You told me you live in Old Bridge, do you like your town? There is a community by Lowes next to bus stop, they have some houses for sale... do you like that area?

I know what community you are talking about it is a nice area and very close to Rt 9 which is a huge plus. Walking distance to the bus is a huge bonus right there I would jump on it. But honestly if I was in walking distance to Cold Stone Creamery my butt would be the size of a bus LOL!

I'm 5 minutes from there. It's a nice area. We have a really great library system. If you can't get it at the ob library, they'll borrow it from another. I've lived here nearly my whole life. It's much more populated then 20 years ago, but still a nice place. I don't know what your schooling plans are, but I did go to the schools here. If you have any questions. I thought Cold Stone was further down rt9?

Do you mind letting me know where your community is?

I was talking to a friend of mine who backed out from buying a house in the same community I told you about because of the high voltage wires that run right along the community that produce high magnetic fields that are terrible for your health. Did you ever hear about that????????????????
