I would felt it, it still retains some of it's stretch, and gets thicker. You will probably lose a good bit of it, I know my mom can make one large or one med. or two small size covers from one yard of felted wool jersey.

the agitation in the wash also helps the felting process so I would wash and dry on hot. If you don't want it as felted you could wet it and throw it in the dryer. But you would definitely need to make 2 layer covers. If it felts up nicely you can make one layer covers, but they might notbe good for day weight. I would strip it of the lanolin by washing in detergent and then lanolize after it's sewn.

ACK!!! I am an idiot, I am an idiot...I meant they might not be good for NIGHT use, not day, should be fine for day if it's one layer and lanolized, but with jersey you'd almost definitely need 2 layers for night covers regardless of how much it is or isn't felted.
