Has anyone here tried an acrylic soaker? How well do they work compared to wool? And can you re-use an acrylic soaker like a wool one if it gets wet with urine?

I'm getting ready to knit my own soaker and was just wondering if I should stick with wool or try acrylic (more colors!).

Thanks!
Acrylic works well as a soaker. You do have to wash it more often. Feebeeglee even polar-proofed hers, and now she reports that it "kicks booty" and , umm, "holds likethe hoover dam" :LOL.

I do walk on both sides of the soaker fence, and they both have their benefits and drawbacks. My acrylic is not polar-proofed,a dn does just fine.

but it needs to be washed as often as your PUL, and I've found it not as good as wool for water resistency. They do make good daytime covers. I'm in the middle of a wool blend (shetland chunky) one right now, but I haven't tried that yet and I've heard that wool ease works great. I'm sure that there are others that can help you out better than I can here, I've just started knitting soakers this summer.

Well, I gotta chime in even tho I should be sleeping. They ROCK! I liked mine before it was polar-proofed (Nikwax product, available at http://www.stacinator.com ) but now it is killer! It actually perfoms better than my wool soaker now, even beats the wool freshly lanolized. I'd say it has to be washed about as often as a fleece cover.
