Ok so here is the thing I have recently moved across country and had to switch to an OB doctor...I am now due April 5th and before was due April 19th I had a bloodclot that was 2 cm and is now an inch so it's grown some...My new OB I liked withmy youngest but has changed and doesnot listen at all...I was toldbymy old ob that wasn't the greatest before that I would have to deliver early or the baby could die and now this doctor isn't worried about it...My new ob wants me to go off my preterm labor meds because she said it wasn't "real labor"...HELLO I was dialating and the admitted me it WAS REAL LABOR...I am so frustrated and scared that my baby won't make it...I woke up in pain last night having contractions every 5 minutes so I took my meds and an hour later they completely stopped...The new ob then says well that wasn't real labor either and that nifedipine does NOT work for labor...I have been in tears all day because of this...the new ob is terrible and I was told I have to deliver from 33-36 weeks in order for baby O to be ok and I am 32 right now...Please any suggestions or advice?

Probably if you could switch doctors you would. If you can't, could you get a second opinion, even if you have to go to another town for one appointment? Really it would be a third opinion. You've already got two very different opinions. That does sound very confusing and upsetting.

Here's a . All that conflicting info would get my head spinning. If you haven't yet, try takiing some deep breaths and listening to your wonderful womanly intuition.

thank you...I am trying to listen to my mother intuitions but I can't when they won't let me do what I need to do to feel comfortable...I am going to try to switch OB docs but not sure if anyone will take me at 32 weeks...

Make lots of calls- I'm sure if you explain your situation (I'd just say that you had conflicting medical advice and wasn't comfortable with your current provider) that you can find someone new to take you!

How about you continue to take your medication, and at about 34 weeks, stop taking it! If you go into labor, then so be it. Your OB will have to deal with it then. They might stop your labor in the hospital, or allow you to have the baby....either way, she'll realize you're not full of hot air.
I don't know if this is good advice...but it seems reasonable since your other OB sais to deliver between 33 and 36 weeks.

It sounds like there are 2 different things going on, the maybe yes maybe no preterm labor thing, and the blood clot. If you have a blood clot, what reason has your new provider given you to not worry about it? Has she explained to you why she would think it wasn't a problem? Maybe if you can ask her to explain it thoroughly, you'll be able to see where she is coming from?

As far as the PTL thing, there are widely differing opinions about the effectiveness of meds to stop contractions. It does seem that they can buy many women time, but not usually more than a couple of weeks. This is enough time to get steroid shots to help the baby's lungs mature, and possibly to improve the outcome a lot if you're talking about 32 versus 34 weeks. But again, is she explaining herself to you? Can you ask for a fetal fibronectin test? It can help predict (to some extent) whether or not your body is trying to go into labor in the next 2 weeks.

What do you think? Do you think that your body is trying to have the baby now? Do you tend to have irritable uterues but not early babies? It is a really tough situation to know what to do. I'm sure you'd get another doc if you could. Have you thought about having your old OB phone or fax records to your new one? maybe your old OB knows more about the situation that your new OB needs to know?

Well they are in the process of getting the results but the army hospital is giving them a hard time...I have explained everything to them they did an ultrasound to confirm the bloodclot but her reasoning for not wanting to deeliver early is that baby is HUGE for his gestational age...I am 32 weeks and he is approx. 3lbs 13 ozs...HELLO that's the normal range...she said if the blood clot was affecting him he would be smaller...My old OB said that as he grows bigger the area will become smaller therefore the blood clot in the placenta would become restricted making it almost impossible for oxygen and nutrients to get to him so although it is'nt affecting him much right now it will in another couple of weeks...I lost my pills for alomst 2 weeks cuz they got packed in stuff and I had mild contractions but with the old meds terbutiline (for about 2 weeks) they worked until I found my other ones as long as I took them every 4 hours or so...I know not the best but better then having a preemie especially in a different state...I had a problem with dd1 where I had preterm labor and was on meds but then when they said it was ok to go off them she wouldn't come out and ended up being 2 weeks late...Now normally I wouldn't mind BUT the bloot clot and them going by the old due date the baby would be 4 weeks late...I am worried about all this and it's really hard to explain on here but I just want as healthy of a baby as I can get and if it were up to me I would go into labor in 4 weeks (36 weeks) and we would be ok...BUT that's not how life works

Try to get a second opinion for sure. Even if you stay in the same OB group and just see another doctor. It sounds like your old OB was more cautious and this one seems to be the opposite. The stress of all these life changes and fear issues is not good for you, or the baby, as you know. Nifedipine and Terbutaline DO slow down contractions for preterm labor, that's why they are prescribed. I have no idea whay your OB said that these meds don't work. Lots of doctors have lots of different opinions and they are all unique, it just seems like you're clashing with yours for some reason. I hope you do hang on until 36 weeks with no problems with your placenta, so the baby can be healthy and safe in your arms...

Sorry I don't have an update right now really...I am really stressed about all this but Monday morning is the beginning of my phone calls to find a new OB...I am just going to tell my new OB the new due date since I have been measuring this date since 10 weeks...April 5th is the new date and I am hoping to make me feel better and to make sure baby is safe I am going to try whatever I can to get them to realize he needs to be here at 36 weeks...I have stopped taking the meds and have had contractions but not too much I have been trying to take it as easy as possible...I figure I might as well just stop taking them now because I am almost out of pills and she won't write anymore...This is so very frustrating and I worry about babe every day quite a bit and the more I try not to think about it the more I do so who knows...Just keep me in your thoughts and prayers and hope I can find an OB that will take him at 36 weeks...Thanks everyone...

Find a good OB. Discuss the issue. It may not be that they need to take him that early. Early babies can have problems. If he's safe it's better to wait.
