Do you have any tips or advice for coping when you're sick and you still have a toddler to care for? It's 2:30 am, and I'm realizing that I must have picked up some kind of gastric bug. TMI ALERT I've already visited the toilet 4 times, and I still feel awful, and DD (13 months) is gonna be awake in just a few hours. I have no help during the day, and I just don't know how I'm gonna cope with being sick, up all night, and having to get her breakfast and a nap and entertain her all day. Never mind what happens if she turns out to have caught this, too.

Would you believe this is the first time I've been sick since she was born?

How do I get through this?

oh mama, i feel for you. Ds and I have just gone through the same sort of thing and are slowly recovering. Luckily Dd didn't get it (the powers of breastmilk) and Dh took a day off to care for us, but today is still tough.

All I can say is, ask help of anybody you can think of; a neighbour, friend, anyone nearby who could just stop in for an hour and cook something, clean up, play with your little one, pick up groceries...but if there really is nobody, BE EASY on yourself. Just focus on a slow day to recover and maybe snuggle in bed with your little one with some books, puzzles, snacks and some videos if needed. You need to take care of yourself, and drink lots of fluids.

So sorry you're sick...it's so hard to take care of yourself and a little one when all you want to do is crawl into bed. On "sick days" I do a lot of what the PP said...go for a slow & easy day.

Sometimes we camp out in the bedroom for most of the day. Even though your DD is only 13 mo., she'll probably understand somewhat if you tell her you're not feeling well & need to rest. I often resort to some tv/videos for DS when I'm sick.

Try taking probiotics twice per day for your upset stomach - always works like a charm for me.

Sending feel better vibes......

I count down the hours. Seriously. Hour by hour. "Okay, I made it to x o'clock, I can make it to x o'clock." Once I had such a horrid migraine (ended up going to the ER actually) that I had to just sit him on the bathroom floor once while I heaved and heaved. It was awful. If I feel really lousy, I will go into a "safe" (very well babyproofed) room, close the door with us in there and some of his favorite toys, and lay down on the floor with my head on a pillow while he plays and try to rest.

It's so hard. I'm so sorry you're not well. I agree about the probiotics, Culturelle can be picked up at CVS. Capsules, very easy to take.

You'll get through it, somehow! I've been sick for about a week, I was pretty miserable a couple days ago with a fever, and then I got this cold in my chest which has been pretty bad. I'm finally feeling better. Yes, the TV has been on way more than I'd like. We've eaten fast food and easy frozen pizzas and lots of canned soup. The house is in total chaos, you can barely even walk through the bedroom. But we're getting through it. :LOL

Just be easy on yourself. I really think my DD has sensed I'm sick and has been a little less demanding of me, plus she had a fever for a day and now she's beginning to get a stuffy nose. Oh well, at least it feels like I'm finally getting better and can take care of her better now.

When I was sick (got some bug and couldn't keep anything down when about 27 weeks preg.), honestly the poor guy didn't get a whole lot of attention He watched a lot of videos while I laid on the couch. Hubby helped when he could but was on nights and had to get some sleep too.
