Advice for my really sick dad??

My dad has been sick with one thing after another this winter. He doesn't live near me so there has been very little I can do since I just had a baby the end of December. However, I am getting really concerned. It started as a cold, developed in to pnemonia(sp?) and now a horrible sinus infection. He has also had a horrible case of stomach flu. Last time we talked he told me he has been on antibiotics for 3 months straight. They also gave him steroid treatments for the pnemonia. He told me his tongue is white. He is still very sick, totally congested, barely has a voice. He doesn't live the healthiest life, he is a total chain smoker and a fairly heavy drinker. I am starting to really freak out that he is going to die from all of this. I told him he needed to go on a good probiotic immediately, I told him to send my step-mom to Whole Foods and talk to someone there. Otherwise I don't know what to tell him. I am new to doing things naturally, and I don't know what advice to give. I just know he isn't getting better, and I am getting scared. What does he need to do?? He said he will try anything you guys say because conventional medicine isn't working and he feels like crap! All advice is welcome. Thanks!
