Several months ago i noticed what looked like a small hole in one of my son's front teeth. i took him to the dentist and was told that it was just a pit or deformation of the tooth caused by a fever i had when i was pregnant and not to worry about it. the pit got bigger so i took him back and they told me that it had decayed. now they want to crown the tooth. they will not be able to sedate him because he is too small so they want me to help hold him while they give him a local and do the procedure. i feel uncomfortable with the idea of holding him down while they do this, but i also don't feel comfortable with having it done in a hospital under general. I also don't feel completely comfortable with the dentist...dr. curran in metarie, LA. He tried to tell me that the decay was the result of my night nursing.

BS!!! No way was it night nursing. Please! That makes me so mad... I had a dentist in WA state tell me my dd would get cavities from night nursing. She nursed a lot at night and NO CAVITIES EVER!!!

Try Dr. Jason Parker in Metairie on VETS. My dd fell and broke her tooth and he had us come to his house cause it was after hours. Then she fell and broke the crown off, charged us half price. He's always been pleasant. I never mentioned anything about nursing dd to him that I recall, but really it's none of their business anyway.

I'm not sure how you should go about the procedure, but I'm 100% sure you need a new dentist!

Good luck!

thanks for the recomendation...we went and saw dr. parker today. the office was really nice and he seemed nice too. they were kind of backed up though, but that was okay. he recomended everything be done under anesthesia at a hospital...im really uncomfortable with that, but i guess if we have to we have to. they also told me night nursing caused tooth decay, but im resigned to the fact i will probably hear that from any dentist. they also told me i needed to put him on a fluoride supplement, but i am looking into alternatives for that. thanks again.
