OK- for about the last 2-3 weeks I've started to have pain in my pelvis that almost feels like the pelvic bone is widening, with pain near my private area. It feels more like bone pain than muscle pain (think of being hit in the groin with a bat- bad visual but it seems to fit the best). It hurts when I walk (not so much at first but more over the last 2 weeks), when I move my legs at night (but I can squeeze my things together with no pain) and sometimes when I sit on a hard surface.

I had a Dr.'s appt. last Thursday with another OB (as mine was out due to a family emergency), I informed him of my pain and symptoms and he did a vaginal exam and said everything was normal (for some reason I left it at that and didn't ask more questions). Since the pain has been increasing over the past week, I'm wondering if I should call my regular OB (as he's now back) and see what he thinks or leave it until my next appt. July 9th (I'm currently at 22 weeks almost 23).

I do have an office job and sit most of the time, so maybe that's what's causing it along with the increasing weight of the baby. Or maybe it is my pelvis widening (but to start at 20-21 weeks?) and the weight of the baby. This is my first pregnancy but I don't seem to be finding much reading material on pelvic pain- any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

Do you know what position the baby is in? I was having terrible pain and my hbmw said maybe the baby was transverse, and the stretching was causing the pain. I had an u/s about a week later and sure enough, she was transverse.

I have the same thing. I also hear/feel a popping clicking sound when my legs press together. It sucks and hurts so much. I just went to the doctor this morning and she told me to take it easy, take Tylenol when needed and gave me a prescription for Tylenol+ for when it gets unbearable. I am trying to slow down and avoid moving my legs too far apart. I try to avoid the stairs, I sleep with a pillow between my legs (doesn't seem to help...), and I move slowly when getting up or down. It seems to help. Also I find resting face down on my elbows and knees while propping my hips up on pillows feels great.

I wish I could help more, but sadly I would love to hear some tips myself. I will have a hard time getting through another 16-18 weeks of this pain.

I hope that you feel better soon!!!

one word, mamas... chiropractor!!!!!

it sounds to me like pubic symphisis disorder, with which i am, sadly, too familiar with. a maternity belt can help relieve some of the pain, but several visits to a chiro who is well-learned in maternal/fetal techniques is soooo worth it.

i am now utilizing it myself (even though dh doesn't have the post-graduate education in moms & babes, another chiro friend of ours does) and today was my second treatment. it can be mildly uncomfortable, depending upon how out-of-whack the pelvis is, but the relief is very much worth it! i can move much better now, and getting up off a chair isn't an exercise in torture anymore!

try to find a local doc through referrals my other mamas (always the best method!) or through the referral service on www.ipca4kids.com

hope this helps!

I don't have any popping or clicking sounds but it hurts the most when I get out of bed (especially at night) or standing up from a chair. I looked up pubic symphisis disorder but didn't find too much related to me. I think I'll give my OB a call. Maybe he'll tell me what position the baby is in.

this site does a pretty good job of describing psd. it does not all apply to all women... it can present slightly differently for each woman. for me, it hurt the most getting up from sitting or laying down~ basically any major position change~ walking too much also aggravated it. volleyball last week certainly didn't help!

I second the chiropractor thing. My good friend is a chiro ( and does maternity and children) and she "replaced" my pelvic bones and other hip joints too and as much as it hurts in the moment,I've been so happy!!! I was dreading having pelvic pains for the rest of my pregnancy and it's almost all gone.

If you work a lot sitting, make sure you balance your weight well, not on one side, don't cross your legs, and place weight on both legs when getting up. This really helped my keep the pain away..

Yup. Chiropractic. Totally. I actually combine chriopractic and acupuncture for my hip pain, and it really seems to do the trick.

Chiro, absolutely!! It's how I've survived these last two pregnancies! I really think the malpositioning of my first baby was also related to the pelvic pain. I read a lot on Kmom's site (referenced earlier) and really regret not having made the move to find a chiro.

BTW, the URL to find one oughta be http://www.icpa4kids.com/

yup, I have an issue with my pubic symphosys too. The pain is unbearable. Your body must release relaxin early, like mine.. its a 1 in 300 000 complication, or we really lucky, or especially unlucky?
The pain sucks.
How far along are you? My first pregnancy was fine, the second one it started at 26 weeks, the next one at 24... the specialists, and good luck finding one who knows much about it, tell me it will happen earlier and more extreme with every pregnancy.

YUCK.

I had meant to say in my first post, I'm not at all surprised that the doc you saw said everything was "normal." Not everyone gets PS pain, but there's nothing threatening about it to baby, etc. I told my doc/nurse at EVERY visit for WEEKS that I felt fine, other than feeling like my legs were splitting apart. Yeah, they never did *anything* about it. Most things that can't be easily explained and/or fixed by an OB are just not paid much attention to.

So, listen to your body, but don't depend on the OB to be able to fix it, or even tell you much about it. Though if you have a really great doc, maybe s/he's heard of it before! Perhaps they even know of a good chiro in the area. But I'd find one, one way or another! It makes a HUGE difference!!

Thank you kosheng for the website! It helped so much and after reading everything, I really do think I have SPD. I called my OB yesterday at 3:30 and the nurse said she'd call me back and it's now 10:30am the next day. I think I'll give them a call and maybe see if they can refer me to a chiropractor under my insurance to help out. If not, I'll have to scout one out on the site you guys recommended. Thanks much!

I developed the same problems a few months ago and was able to get rid of it with massage and chiropractic work plus some mindful yoga practice. I really REALLY recommend an adjustment or massage if you can get it. My pain is gone now!
