All my children were pinned at one time or another. Only on a very rare occassion would any of them get clipped-even by my husband who handled many less diapers. Usually it was me!!!!! Regardless, all of us survived. There will be more damage done by riding bikes and falling off swings then you will ever do with a pin.

I agree, it was a little scary at first. But you can do it! Make sure you have some good pins, like Dritz, that are sharp enough to go through the fabric. (I tried pinning w/ some really old pins and they wouldn't even go throuh the prefold)

I always put my fingers inside the diaper (behind where the pin goes in) so if I did accidentally go all the way through the diaper I'd poke myself & not ds.

I really like pinning now that I've gotten the hang of it. There is a small learning curve, but it's worth it! I LOVE the look of a pinned pf!

I pin my prefolds too. I can't snappi for nothing. The diapers sag and the front part comes out. I fold down the front of the PF to the inside and catch only part of the inside layer so the pin doesn't touch the babe at all.

I love to pin prefolds. In fact that is what I've used since day one along with a few fitteds. But a pinned prefold is my favorite diaper because you can customize the fit so much. I really don't like my snappi because it seems to get too tight. Just practice, practice, practice. You'll get the hang of it pretty quick. Also running the pins through your hair will make them go through the diapers easily. I found that my pins get sharper with use.
