I'm having ctx every 10ish min - not too strong - def enough to go Oh yeah there's somthing going on. I need a shower (badly!) but I'm afraid to stall labor if this really is labor.

so, I guess it was labor

http://www.mothering.com/discussions...8#post14739718

From what I have been told, a shower can do either, it can either slow it down or speed things up. If it slows it down it is possible it's not true labor...

It's my understanding that if it is true labor a shower is not going to stall it. I would take one if it were me-I wouldn't want to feel gross during labor.

Popping in from "new posts" to say:

I took a shower during labor with DS. I was hoping it would help soothe the contractions (not make them go away, but make me more comfortable during them), the same kind of idea as laboring in the tub (I didn't have a bathtub at the time)- but it wasn't too effective. It felt weird having only half my belly (either front or back, not both) under the warm water at one time. I came out of the shower (and didn't bother getting dressed again until after DS was born. )

I can't remember if I showered during labor with DD1- I probably did, seing how labor began on a Thursday night and she wasn't born until Saturday night (techically Sunday morning, just after midnight.) I probably didn't with DD2, because it was a fairly quick labor and I'd likely showered the night before- but it's possible that I did.

If you're really in labor, NOTHING is going to stop it! A shower may or may not be soothing during contractions. Besides, if contrax are 10 minutes apart, you can probably take a quick shower between them.

I wasn't sure if I was in labor or not with #3, really sporadic contractions, no real pattern......I took a bath, and by the time I got out 45 minutes later, I was in transition I'd take the shower.

yeah, thats the issue I dont think its true labor and they're not really regular - a few for 10min then nothing for a bit and 10 min again. and I'm entirely too comfy.

I decided to vaccume my house and steam the floors instead. might as well shower after the gross projects.

dh left 2h ago to go to homedepot. he took dd w/him so I could have a little alone time. he's going to be surprised to find me still in my nightgown.

Go for it. If it makes you want to peel your skin off, the chances are that you're in labour.

Very, very warm shower started my labor with DD2. I had the water beating on my breasts and lower back. Within 5 minutes contractions started.

I showered in all of my labours; it didn't seem to slow anything down, but it felt great. With my last three, I was in the shower from when things got more difficult (ctx 3-5 mins apart) until I was ready to push.

I'm sorry it wasn't what you had hoped for, but you seem to be digesting everything really well, and enjoying that little piglet!
