The new design has a base that's more like a cup for dipping and also a tear-off end for squeezing, plus it holds three times as much ketchup than a traditional packet.
Okay, I like the change of design, but do we really need three times as much ketchup?
I think it will actually work out better! There will be less packaging waste. Instead of asking for several packets, you can get 1 or 2. I use ketchup for McNuggets and I use 5 or 6 packets.
While we don't use the ketchup packets, this isn't a new design. I remember these kinds of packets from when we lived in Germany. The Germans probably came up with it first... typical for Germans, they always have the best ideas first.
We don't eat fast food and try to limit our consumption of packaging, so it doesn't do us any good, but it'll be a novel change for the millions of McDonald's fans.

But the flip side is that people who use ketchup sparingly will waste the ketchup... so which natural resource to waste... tomatoes and corn (HFCS) or oil (plastic packaging).
Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea for people who use single-serve packaging. I just think that single-serve packaging is wasteful, in general.
i love it! i cant wait til they come to my area! i will be sending the to DH in Iraq!
i think no matter how you cut it, it will cut down on waist! DH use to have lots of ketchup left over because he would over do it with the old style of package.
