Well it's nearly 2am here, I have to be up in 5 hours, and I can't sleep- all thanks to heartburn. I would rather not take any otc heartburn stuff. Anyone have any home remedies?

Dilute a tbsp of Bragg's ACV in room temp water w a bit of honey and drink that - definitely helps me. Eating a few raw almonds seems to help me too. Hope you feel better!

^^That is good to know!!

PP, I feel your pain. I've been woken in the middle of the night by awful heartburn a few times in this pregnancy. Last night, I let my DH talk me into Mexican food, and I do not know why. I still have that nasty Mexican food taste in my mouth and it's been burning my throat all night and morning. Thankfully I was still able to sleep...and hope you were able to, eventually, too!!!

papaya enzymes (you can get tablets at the HFS)
fresh pineapple and cantaloupe (this has been my SAVIOR for weeks now)
yogurt sometimes helps (but dairy could be part of the problem)

I haven't heard of this.. I HATE vinegar. I don't know if I can stomach it.

papaya enzymes don't work for me, and pineapple makes it worse. I haven't tried cantaloupe though. Maybe some soy yogurt too..

ugh. I am done with spicy foods, and chocolate seams to trigger it

It seems to be the combination of pineapple and cantaloupe that works so well for me.

Oranges are my hell. Well, they were. I had some a few days ago and they were SO GOOD. But I haven't been able to touch oranges or orange juice for a few months now.

You could also try umeboshi plums but the taste is... strong. I tried the paste a few times but just couldn't stand the salty taste anymore and gave up on them.

i had monster heartburn again last night (maybe it was the broccoli?) anyway, i actually took a zantac and it didn't work so i went to the acv with water and honey suggestion and got INSTANT relief (once i got it down -- EEEW!!! )

dh, who is kind of a science geek, thought it was brilliant and really cool. lol you know, a base neutralizing an acid....he even thought the burps that came afterward were fun -- "science at work!"

Glad it worked! Always helps me too - hard to get down but I just drink it as fast as I can and grimace and be done with it. LOL on the DH!

Does it have to be Bragg's ACV? I don't have any and the heartburn (usually tomato stuff and OJ for me) is NOT FUN.

Thanks for the replies ladies! So I was searching on MDC later that night, and someone said to drink a few gulps of dill pickle juice. Sounds nasty I know, but it worked!!! I was so suprised! Give it a try if you get a chance. Take a small sip first though, its a bit of a shock to the throat if you gulp at first! Found that one out the hard way!

I usually just swallow a tablespoon full and get it over with. For me putting it in water makes it work.

Any brand is fine. I use Eden Organic.
