I just got a letter from the Health Dept that said "Please call us regarding your child's vaccination schedule. If you will not be vaccinating, please call Records at...."<br><br>
So i called Records, said we were not vaccinating DD. She said "all right, i changed that. Thanks for calling"<br><br>
No fight, no lectures, nothing. I was all prepared with my classic "we discussed vaccines with our GP and have decided that they are not appropriate at this time" but apparently they are used to us crazy hippie non-vaccinators here.

I had zero problems at my nurse practitioners office. zero. I am still surprised people think they *have* to get the vaxes. My friend (in Ontario...I'm in Alberta now) thought she HAD to get them done for school. They told her she had to. No mention of exemption forms. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/dizzy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Dizzy">:

<div style="font-style:italic;">I thought you guys didn't even have to get exemptions for school?</div>

We don't. Apparently some schools will hassle you, but the right to not vaccinate is protected.

That's odd that you have to report to someone that you are not vaxxing. I'm in Ontario and I have never gotten any notification about vaxxing my kids and I have never told anyone, other than my previous family doctor, that we are not vaxxing. Personally I think its nobody's business.

Here, vaccines are administered by Public Health. They have records of all babies born at the hospital here, and will mail out reminders at the "appropriate time"<br>
My DD wasn't born at this hospital, but i think I get the reminders because I chose to take advantage of their at-home Lactation Consultant service.

Wow...that's cool that non-vaxing is not as big a deal in Canada.<br><br>
Non-vaxers are pretty much made to feel like lepers here in the US.

You do need an exemption for school in Ontario. And while my kids are vaxed (hindsight and all that), they don't have all of dd2's records, and I have received a number of "your child could be suspended if we don't get this info" letters. I finally called and bitched at the answering machine about how they are not required by law, and to stop harrassing me. We haven't had one since (but whether the figured out her records, or I scared them, I don't know).

You have to get an exemption in New Brunswick. It's written into the Education Act. The Act actually says that proof of immunization is required for school entry, but if you research further, you find that an exemption form is accepted as proof of immunization.<br><br>
Ontario and Manitoba also have school entry immunization requirements.<br><br>
We stopped vaxing at 6 months and have yet to receive a call from our GP or public health. Ds is going on 3. So although they're 'supposed' to follow up with people who haven't been in for vaccines, they don't always do it.

On a side note, I'm in BC and was hounded constantly by public health nurses calling to tell me that I was putting my baby in danger. Finally when I threatened to get a restraining order of some sort they laid off. I also got smart and mentioned religion, lol.

I'll let everyone know how school registration goes in a couple weeks. Might be interesting. i also have to advocate for a couple other services for my DS.<br><br>
I spoke at length about it with a doctor, and apparently only about 75% of local families vaccinate. that may explain why Public Health is so nonchalant about it.<br><br>
I got hounded by Puclic Health when i stopped vaccinating DS, until I was absolutely firm with them. i just said "I am exercising my right to no longer vaccinate DS. It's not going to happen" and they stopped calling.

What province are you in Throkmorton?<br><br>
I'm in Ontario, and I have never had a call from public health or anyone else.<br><br>
I do need an exemption if I send my kids to public school though. I only think 3 or 4 provinces require either vax records or exemptions.

I'm in BC. I just called the school to ask about bussing, and asked about the vaccination record requirement too. The secretary said not to worry about it
