Okay, I'm going down to town tomorrow. This might be the last trip before baby comes. What do I need? I feel like it's all too easy and I might be forgetting something. I have the big baby stuff like a car seat, clothes, diapers, etc. What else? Here's my specific because-I'm-having-a-baby stuff:

*Towels (4)
*Hydrogen peroxide
*a dozen of those costco muffins that I'm sure are not healthy but are good
*trail mix
*bread in case I'm not up to making it immediately PP (and hubby's still gotta eat, apparently)
* a case of water bottles
*Emergen-C (I've never had this before, but lots of people seem to like it?)

And now I notice that really none of this is even for the baby... hmm. LOL! Anything else to add? This is all too simple!

Thanks!

do you have some receiving blankets to wrap the babe in immediately after birth that you don't care if they get bloody and possibly pooped on? if not, i'd grab some.

oh oh! and do you have postpartum pads (cloth or disposable) for yourself? those are a must!

Do you have diaper washing stuff?

I really like to have a pack of those moist hemorroid wipes (Target has their own brand) b/c they are so soothing on your bottom after having a baby, even when there aren't tears.

Lots of fiber-rich foods b/c your digestive system sometimes needs a little help getting re-started.

Nursing pads and maybe lansinoh

I'm gathering birthing stuff today, too.

I liked having Gatorade to drink for a couple days after the birth. That's the only time I like the stuff! Maybe you would, too?

- blankets for baby
- diapers & supplies
- breastpads
- lots of heavy absorbancy mama pads
- herbs for sitz baths (common herbs include uva ursi, comfrey leaf, comfrey root, witch hazel)
- 100% pure lanolin like Lansinoh
- 1-2 cheap shower curtain liners (to cover bed & floor, especially if you have carpet you want to protect)
- lots of easy foods
- Some women have trouble with constipation in the last weeks. You may want to get some alfalfa tablets for yourself just in case. Staying regular will help prevent hemmoroids. Also alfalfa has a lot of Vitamin K which will help with your blood clotting

Can't think of anything else right now. The first 4 on the list are necessary, the others are luxury, but could really make things a lot more comfortable.

Ooo, you guys are so sweet! thanks! Good ideas

I'll go ahead and suck it up and get some disposable momma pads JIC, even though I like cloth so much better. Gaterade, yeah, that sounds like it might be good. My receiving blankets are nice, so maybe I"ll see if there's a pack of cheaper ones, didn't realize that babe would get them icky

Diaper washing stuff... My diapers (just CPFs) said to just use oxyclean and regular degergent? No fabric softener, obviously. Hemmroid whipes, DH is going to laugh at me
but I'll check out Target for them.

I do have a birth kit. Like a true mom, I feel like I have everything for the baby and have forgot about what I might need

Thanks! So exciting! I feel more put together now... There are some annoying things about living far away from town

Oh Fun!! I love this get it all together time!! Sound to me like you've got it pretty under control. I just bought some emergen-C and effer-C (same thing) to try out before babe comes. It's not bad. I prefere the effer-C orange or emergen-c orange, the other flovors taste to artifical to me.

I usually make my own labor *aide* drink which is way yummier but not as convinient. it goes like this:

pure water (hot)
lemon
celtic salt or sea salt(just a dash or 2)
honey.

You can blend it with some ice to drink during transition/pushing...soooo refreshing and one of the few things that doesn't make me throw up!!

You can play around with the amounts to find your perfect flavour. It a great electrolite drink, also good when your sick or kids are sick...better the pedialyte.

Also, I've heard amazing things about fresh pinapple juice for PP. Its supposed to be great for after pains, something about the high bromine content. You could pick up some or juice your own. I'm gonna juice some and freeze it so I have it on hand. Anything to reduce after pains!!!! Also I'm plannig on taking motherwort tincture for this. I don't want nasty afterpains!! (they get worse the more babis you have)

Hmm, Maybe I'll pickup a couple pineapples and cut them up and freeze the chunks. Good idea! I bet it will taste good anyway.

Maybe I should get some Tylenol or something for after pains just in case?

And i'll do that rehydration/laboraide drink also, that sounds good

Hey, actually, anyone know what regular stores carry Emergen-C? I don't really want to have to go to a health food store, they all have parking that's a total pain in the butt to get in and out of. Good reason, huh? Teehee! Would a drug store, like Osco carry it?

I second that one. Gatorade is loaded with sugar. Two more very important things, at least in my opinion:

Some sort of squirt bottle, some people call them "peri bottles" to wash with after you pee. If you have a tear it hurts like you know what if you don't have that bottle.

Also, either ice packs or frozen pads. I soaked a bunch of all natural cotton pads in a great herbal sitz bath I bought and froze them. Anything related to those will be your best friend after the birth.

I realize you may already have these things in your birth kit, but I just had to let you know in case you didn't. Also, get something nice for those nipples!

K. Maybe gaterade, but DH would probably drink it before the birth anyway
But I'll keep Emergen-C, I know he'll not touch my weird hippie stuff.

I have a peri bottle, and I'll do that with the pads, good idea.

I have lansoin (or however it's spelled) from Target. That's all I'll need, right?

Ooo, it's so exciting! I'm such a dork!
