So our whole family has allergies to dust and that. We need to get an air cleaner sort of thing.

What is the best model to get. What is the cost?

I didn't want to get an ionic one, because I have heard that they emmit large ammounts of ozone.

(We have a cat, also, if that matters. So we are hoping that will help with her hair, although it doesn't appear that any of us are allergic to it)

Absolutely avoid ionizers and ozone generators.

Opt for HEPA standard filtration.

There are several brands. I have two older Honeywell Enviracaire units. One is at least 12 years old, the other is at least seven. Both run well, but are noisier than modern units. They have a charcoal prefilter (changed at least once every three months) and a HEPA internal filter (changed every 1-3 years).

I buy my replacement filters at National Allergy Supply. You can browse their website and look at the different models for sale. I have no affiliation with the company--just a happy repeat customer.

You can also look for reviews in Consumer Reports. Your local library probably subscribes.
