Hi - wasn't sure the best place to post, but I figured there may be some Canadian parents who can give some advice....

Has anyone flown Westjet with their "Chariot" stroller? (the enclosed one that you can convert to the ski, bike or hiking kit). It's pretty big and I'm not sure of the best way to package it up to survive the flight....and if it would even be small enough to be allowed? We're flying east (Ontario) for a week this winter and would like the wind/weather protection for dd (21 mo)...and to also take her on a few xc ski trails.

Thanks for any tips!

I moved across Canada a few months ago and had to leave my Chariot behind. My sister brought it out to me when she came to visit. She flew Westjet. It ended up being an oversize item so I paid about 40$ extra for it. My dad had broken it down, like taken off the wheels and those grey plastic pieces were the wheel bars slide into the stroller, and put it into a big box (I think he even threw some pillows in). I've heard about strollers getting banged up on planes so I was glad my dad had packed it so well. The westjet website has a section on what is considered an oversize item so maybe you could check that out (if you haven't already).

I flew WJ a few years ago (Comox to Calgary fwiw) and was actually using the Chariot for my two kids (not just including it as baggage yk?).

Anyways, I just wheeled it up to the plane, the flight attendants helped me with the kids while I packed it down and they stored it for me that way, apparently the way they would with any stroller? Mine is the huge double stroller too.

I also did the same with Pacific Coastal Air and Air Canada and had no problems.

I say take it, treat it like a regular stroller (ie that you need it right up until you board the plane, even if you don't) and I think you'll be fine.

HTH!

Thanks for your replies

MammaKoz - I think you've convinced me to try a gate check. I definitely don't want to pack it up and check it with baggage.

How did you fold it down? Did you have stroller wheels or the jogging wheel in front? I have the big front jogging wheel. I'm hoping I could just leave the wheels on and fold the body down (as much as it does)...I'm guessing there's less liklihood of it getting banged up if the wheels are left on.

Where on the plane was it stored?

Thanks again.
