I'm in Ketchikan (new here), and we have one FSBC, but I am afraid the midwife who runs it will be too interventionistic (is that a word? lol) for my taste.

I would prefer a homebirth, but can't seem to find a midwife to attend (of course, I haven't been looking LONG).

Would it be reasonable to find a midwife somewhere else? Like I said, I'm new to this area, so I really don't know how far other cities are, or if this is a kooky idea.

Can you recommend any midwives for homebirth? Right now, I'm thinking that I'd like to have a midwife "on tap", so to speak, but if for some reason she would be unable to make the birth, I'd feel okay about UC. Does that make sense?

Any suggestions/ideas will be greatly appreciated. I feel kind of at a loss of where/how to start looking.

TIA.

Hmmmm, did you talk to anyone at the birth center in Juneau? That's really the only one I know of in Southeast. I'm sure there's got to be other folks in Ketchikan that don't go to the hospital, but don't know how you could connect with them. Your other option might be to use the midwife you talked to, but don't make it to the birth center in time.
Just consider her a backup to UC, in the event that she might be able to handle a problem that prevents a transport. So how are you liking it there so far? I'd love to spend sometime in Southeast someday.
