I am now, for the 4th time in about 8 days, rewashing the same load of towels. And they smell so bad I need to use warm water. Perhaps today is the day they will make it into the dryer.

Do you keep forgetting to put them in the dryer, leaving them in the damp, dark washing machine for several days, allowing bacteria to proliferate at an alarming rate?<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/disappointed.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="disappointed"><br><br>
I've never done that<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/sulkoff.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="tiptoe">

I had that happen to me (sour towels) and the only thing that worked was a little bleach. I'm not one to throw bleach on everything but it was either that or go buy new towels.

I always wash the towels in hot water as they seem to stink anyway unless I do. I didn't have that problem until I got a front loader. Shrug.<br><br>
But yea,, one hot water wash on the heavy duty cycle keeps me from having to wash them over and over again. So in the long run I guess it saves energy. Which reminds me.. I washed a load of towels last night. I better get those puppies in the dryer!

Hint: Put them in the dryer with a washcloth dripped with several drops of Tea Tree Oil and a couple drops of a scented oil, like lavender. It's mild enough that they won't come out scented like the oil, but it'll go a long way toward covering the musty smell.
