So I got a letter yesterday from the Alberta Cancer Screening Program telling me I am due for a pap test. I am so annoyed about it I can barely see straight.

I completely believe in the importance of regular pap tests. What I am not thrilled about is that I am somehow unwittingly a part of some government registry. Not pleased.

Last time I had a pap done (a little over a year ago) I got my results in the mail through this "program". At the time I just thought that my test was sent there, and they were only sending me the results. I had no idea I was going to be signed up for their registry.

I would have no problem if I got a reminder from my doctor's office, like you do from the dentist (or the vet!), but I am so not pleased about the GOVERNMENT having anything to do with my CERVIX!!

Am I blowing this out of proportion? Does anyone else have an issue with this?

How can one possibly argue with that?!

I would talk with your HCP about how they got that information, or if there's a number on the card, I'd call there looking for answers and ask to be removed.

This is for BC, so I don't know if its the same with Alberta, but basically when you get your pap smear done, its done at the BC Cancer agency. ALL smears are then recorded and the results are sent to the Dr's office for them to tell you.

Its up to you, or it should be, for you to decide what you want to be done about the results. Yes, they can track you but they can't *make* you do anything.
