So - in my quest to get more crunchy I have spent waaaaaay too much time on this forum in recent months.

I learned here that you could use something other than commercial deodorants to keep the underarm odor away (and I also learned that some folks do not wish to keep underarm odor away - rock on!).

After trying a few things I ended up with one of the many suggestions on one of the many lengthy threads discussing the subject of natural deodorants. It works great for me. My "recipe" is a bottle of 70% isopropyl alcohol with about 15 drops of peppermint and 15 drops of lemon EOs.

So then, in another fit of wanting to go even MORE natural I checked out Clean Home, Clean Planet from the library (this book having been recommended here). She describes alcohol as a substance to stay away from and identifies it as toxic.

So, natural mamas, which is it? I don't intend to return to Ban Roll-on, and I'd like to keep the alcohol in the act. Talk to me about the toxicity please! Thanks!

Here's some info

If it's a concern of yours perhaps you would want to use just baking soda instead? I find that if I put it on in the morning, there is no need for alcohol. or maybe you could try witch hazel?

Hey hey! I was waiting for someone to suggest bs! Ive been using it the same way Sharrla described and I dont stink and most days i dont even get sweaty, its cool!. Someone at some point in my research suggested using lemon juice. just swirl a lemon under your arms and it wont smell bad either. I did that but I didnt like the wet feeling. It wasnt too bad actually but not as good as the bs.

Hmmm, I've been using alcohol for ages as a deodorant and did tons of research and didn't find anything concerning about it. I did read that link above and I agree that inhaling it, drinking it etc... are not a good idea but it's not a good idea to do that with most any product, natural or chemical. That link above didn't really give me any reason to think that spritzing my pits with alcohol was in any way concerning unless I'm missing something.
