I have a horrible allergy to something this time of year - just when the tree's are budding - it lasts about 3 weeks the leaves as fast as it started.
I starts with a cold and gets real bad, I have mild asthma - under very good control 11 months out of the year (as in no meds at all) but once that spring cold hits - and what ever is in the air that I'm allegic too triggers the problem my asthma goes haywire - like 3-4 attacks PER DAY. My doctor said to use and OTC antihistamine - Unfortunatly he said the only one safe for BFing was Benadryl and I can't take it and even think abou looking after my kids it makes me loopy. BUT it gives fantastic control of the allergy and I don't get the asthma attacks.
Are there any other OTC or percription anti allergy med that are safe (L1, L2 or even an L3 because it is only really short term and DD is 13 months and only nursing 5-6 times a day)
I really need to do something, my doctor dosn't want to do steroid meds for that asthma because by the time they kick in the allergen will be gone and I will no longer need them.

I'm also wondering if there is any way of preventing this yearly occurance. Allergy tests can't identify the allergen, and the specific time of year is strike depends on the weather (if it is and early spring it could hit by the end of Feb, If it's a late spring like this year it's the end of April)
I didn't have to much touble when I was acctualy preganant with my kids I would assume that is because the immune system isn't working at full tilt durring pregnancy.

Claritin and Alavirt are L1. I can look up more for you, but I don't know the names of allergy meds off hand.

Honey therapy, eating a tablespoon of raw local honey (closer the better but within 100 miles) can be helpful for some people.
