before you dx'd food allergies, what was your LO's sleep like? We have reflux, high needs, etc, but I swear there is an underlying food issue, based on how I saw him react to corn, despite some Rasts coming back negative, and elim diets not doing much at all. Help! I need a tad more sleep and I need, even if he isn't sleeping, for him to be comfy. We see our 2nd pedi GI Thursday who will readjust meds if necessary, but will also do allergy tests....should I just ask for the whole kit'n'kaboodle, IgE, IgG and IgA for 180 foods each, so I really can narrow this down?

Waking up 12-14 times a night was the norm. Take all the triggers out, slept through the night. What did you try for your ED that didn't work?

If insurance covers all the testing, then go for it!! With reflux and high needs and poor sleep, it definitely sounds like there's a food intolerance (or several) going on.

I have been 99% CF since August (except I flubbed yesterday and guess who has a stuffed nose this morning, me!), GF since March, with a few tiny infractions that didn't make a whole lot of difference, SF since December, corn free since Jan-ish. I cannot do a Feingold or Sears type elim, I get too light headed. This girl needs to eat and eat lots, and I try to eat TF/nutritionally focused.

I didn't notice anything with my first. His sleep didn't seem to be affected. At first I thought maybe he wasn't sleeping well enough, becasue he had dark circles and just seemed unwell, but his sleep actually worsened after getting the allergies under control.
My second slept badly-if at all-when he was exposed. His colic would get all fired up. He was much younger than my first had been. Without exposure, he slept very well.

My son often woke up 10+ times a night for the first year, sometimes more. teething times were, of course, worse. His sleep has improved with age, but I cannot attribute this to eliminating some triggers. We have, but his sleep is still more or less up every two hours, which he has been doing for the last year. Wish I could say EDing and identifying triggers has improved sleep. Maybe when we isolate all the triggers.....

I don't think I remember the infant stage at all because I was awake 22 hrs out of every 24! Seriously, it's all just a haze for the most part.

It didn't really improve much with the removal of the allergens although all her other stuff went away: no more reflux, excema, extreme high neediness, clinginess, projectile spit up, etc.

For us the sleep didn't get better until she was in her own room. Before that she was in a crib in our room. We're not co-sleepers and really wouldn't have had her in our room except we had no space elsewhere until we moved when she was 14 mos. Then she finally started sleeping through the night within the month.

Ours were definitely night/day when we finally removed ALL the triggers. I'd say for anyone still up 10-12 times a night, there are still triggers. But that's because I'm a food intolerance conspiracy theorist.

LOL! Totally! Count me in too!

DD didnt sleep, couldnt wouldnt....whichever, she just didnt. She cant go to sleep and she cant stay asleep. Waking about every 45 minutes, some time more some times it would be 1 1/2 hours, to eat and then it would take a good 30-1 1/2 hours to get her back to sleep. Not eating, she would only nurse for 5 minutes at a time, and when we switched to formula she would only take max 3 oz bottles. Cranky! Like a light switch she would go to happy go lucky fun loving baby, to super over stimulated and in obvious pain. She would kick out her legs and push, like she was straining to pass gas or poop for hours at a time. Arch her back while she was eating, after she at and pretty much any time she was crying......Either constipated or had diarrhea...no in between.

Just a heads up mama, all of those tests are not going to show an intolerance. My dd has a very sensitive system, and any larger more complex protiens are hard for her little body to break down (like milk, soy, eggs,corn,beef...and i think all legumes now too
) so no matter how many tests we get done they are not going to show us anything......unless there is a test to show if she has an over production of yeast, or enough good bacterias in her system, which i have yet to hear of.....thanks antibiotics!

The ALCAT was the best test for us, though even that had a couple of false negatives (two for DS and one for DD2).
