I was wondering if any other parent has a child that is allergic to the Huggies Bath Mitts that smell like Watermelon? My DD used one tonight (no apparent allergies to these before hand) and her face started to swell up and get all red. She hadn't even gone by her face with it yet. She just started playing with it on the side of the tub. Her face is still swollen, Red and has little bumps on it like hives. Was wondering if this could be a reaction or something else?

Em is allergic to them. or at least she breaks out in a huge red rash and swells a bit when they are used on her {MIL has a habit of wiping her nose with them or something when she's at their house, despite repeated orders not to.
Pretends that she's going after DNephew, but stops and wipes Em's face instead and laughs
} But she's sensitive and breaks out from just about all the commerical stuff. Thank God for Huggies extra sensitive and my personal stash of all natural bath bars...

My ds Nick couldn't use ANYTHING but cetaphil and pure glycerine soap. The baby stuff (Gerber, Johnson's, even Burts Bees) and even Aveeno did that to him until he was well into being two. It's definitely an allergy but to what, who knows. He was also allergic to milk at the time, so anything that had "milk bath" was especially bad.

Ok I'm glad that Livy is not the only one allergic to them. I don't think I will ever buy anything like that again. We had been using the Aveeno Bath wash on her which really worked well but I wanted to give her a little option too. She is in the middle of potty training and she picked them out as a reward for using the potty all weekend. I guess we have learned out lesson out quickly. Thanks so much.

Why would anyone want to buy such a item to begin with? It's loaded with chemicals and it's disposable which is so not GREEN!

Please don't expose your young babies and children to those aweful chemicals in today's bath products. Water is good enough for children and if you really want a soap, try a natural soap product like Dr. Bronners or something from Natural Family Boutique.

Mothering Mag did an article recently (2 issues ago???) on the chemicals in today's beauty products.

I don't want to be rude or mean, but Huggies Bath Mitts? YUCK!!!

We use real castile soap (like Kiss My Face olive bars. Dr. Bronner's is mostly coconut based, therefore not real castile soap. Coconut based soaps can be very irritating for sensitive skin. I make my own, very easy. I can post a recipe next week when I get home if anyone wants it.)

California Baby has a great line of baby skin care products.

We only use soap on our kids when they REALLY need it (once a week? maybe?) Otherwise, just splashing and playing in the tub is enough to get them clean. Using soaps and detergents (like the Huggies stuff or conventional baby baths, and most bar "soaps" are really detergent bars) is very drying and can irritate sensitive skin.
