I bled for 8 weeks. It stopped and started like you mention but I think it was mostly brown at the end. Other than that I don't have any tips. Good Luck!

I bled exactly like you mentioned after my third. It went on for 3.5 months. My mw referred me to an OB who took some blood and did a pelvic exam. Her conclusion? My uterus was tired and just taking longer than normal to stop bleeding. My third baby was my biggest and also my longest pg so I can see how that could be.

So like I said, I stopped bleeding at 3.5 months PP. Got AF at 4 months PP. Sigh.

If you are never giving your body a good long chance to rest, it could just be dragging on. I think that was also part of my issue with #3 - I was so stoked from his birth that I just barreled forward with life. This time, with #4, I was on bedrest for a week after and the we were in the hospital for the next week so I got to sit around a lot more and my bleeding was over at 2.5 weeks PP.

Good luck with your bleeding. Keep us posted.

Oh yeah that reminded me. I read somewhere that occasionally extended PP bleeding isn't lochia at all but an early menstrual period which is why some women have fresh red blood after weeks of brown.

I bled like that after my 2nd which was a really long labor, pit, epi, pph so when I bled for a long time I just chalked it up to that. But then it just kept going and going and going. I had her in May and bled till August. I went on progesterone and immediatly felt better.

No advice, just BTDT. I bled to about 9 weeks also. My flow turned brown after 1 week, and slowed until week 4, when it suddenly turned bright red and went to soaking four or five pads a day. It wasn't a period because it went on for over two weeks like that and my periods have always been heavier that that for the first couple of days. My midwife checked me physically and said everything felt fine, and because I was very sleep-deprived from trying to take exams said not to worry unless it continued after I'd had a week of rest. By the next week it was still bright red but less, and over the next few weeks (till 9 maybe?) it went up and down until it finally stopped.

When I say red, I mean red. I talked to my midwife on the phone about it a few days after it started back like that and she wasn't at all concerned -- until I went in and she saw it. It was totally fresh blood.
