I thought there is to be a 2 week check up, plus on top of that baby is not pooping like a newborn. She was going twice a day, now she just skipped a day and had a bowel movement about an hour ago, so I wanted to check that out too.

So I got questioned about if she saw a dr. before (no, because she was a homebirth but the midwife checked her out). Then they said they was suppose to see her 24-48hours after birth
(I said she got checked out from the MW already). Anyways know there is a rush to bring her in. The woman was like if you have concerns about her poop there is test that need to be run - I really hope I don't have to fight these people.

My son ped. who I was trying to get an appt. w/ is on vacation & I heard these people where really good. I am hoping it was just the receptionist that get so frantic.

You don't have to take her in if you don't want to. You could wait until your normal ped comes back from vacation.

If she's had a bowel movement then there's not a problem there (IMO) and breastfed babies may not poo every day and that's normal. So there's not really anything requiring any urgent attention.

I am thinking to cancel tomorrow, I didn't like how rushed they seemed.

Before my first child was born, I talked with several pediatricians (never occurred to me to find a family practitioner, that was a couple years later), but there was a huge variation in how comfortable they were with a lot of topics--out of hospital birth, eye ointment, all sorts of stuff. If you're getting a bad vibe, and you don't think this is urgently life-threatening, I'd cancel and find someone else, because it sounds like more harm than good could come from this appointment.

I would talk to a LC or a LLL leader about whether you think the baby is pooping enough, anyways. They will more likely be able to help with any feeding issues if there is something that needs to be addressed. I'd give someone a call just for your own peace of mind. It is common for bf babies to go several days without pooping, but I can't remember whether or not that should be starting w/in the first couple of weeks.

Has the poop changed over from meconium to the bf poop? Is your baby nearly back to birth weight? You could maybe ask to see your mw and have the baby weighed on her scale again. Using the same scale would probably give you the best reading, anyways.

Doctors and their receptionists have no right to try to exert authority over you. My LO was born at home and saw a doctor for the first time at 4 months (midwifery postpartum care where we are is to 6 weeks old for mama and baby), and that's only because a family friend agreed to take our family on as patients and we went to have a history/new patient check up as a whole family.

My DD poos mostly every day, but often takes a day off here or there with no problem. Our friends that were visiting yesterday have a LO who goes every 3-4 days and then it's huge.

I definitely second the LC recommendation, or can you follow up with your midwives? Or with your regular doc.? I know sometimes it's just the tone of the receptionist, not the doctor, but this is a real peeve of mine....

I just thought about a LLL leader, I guess since I moved to a different county I didn't get in contact w/ them down here. They did help me alot when I had my son and was wondering about the colostrum thing, dehydration because I thought his fondel look sinken in.

Anyways, she already pooped the meconium. She was pooping about twice a day, nice yellow, chuckyish poop w/ no smell. Her wet diapers are great, her pee is clear like water.

She doesn't seem like she lost any weight at all. The MW weight her at 4 days(she was born 7lbs) and she was 7lbs 10ounces!! w/ clothes on. She is up too 8 lbs and couple ounces now. I am suppose to have one more check in, so I will just ask then.

I basically just wanted to find a ped. in my area just for a few Well-check ups, I wasn't planning on going to much, just enough to say have a ped in the area. DS ped.(who I prefer) is 45mins. away(and on vacation for this week).

I will just cancel and wait for DS ped. to come back or for the MW assitant to drop by and also call the LLL leader.

Thanks.

After her meconium cleared, my DD didn't poop for 11 days when she was a newborn. Freaked me out! Our pediatrician didn't seem worried and she turned out just fine (still not a very frequent pooper, though).

I'd wait until your regular ped. comes back.

Your ped. should be indifferent to where the baby was born. They are not ob/gyns and it really does not affect them. The only thing my ped said about it was that they wanted to do the PKU test, I said that the MW does it she just waits until 3 days PP. He said, "Smart midwife, the hospital usually does it before 24 hours and the results are always wrong and we need to do it again anyway." ^_^

Also, our MW made sure we had an appt. with a pediatrician within 48 hours of the birth.

I didn't read all the replies, but I just wanted to say that it is totally normal for BF'ed babies to skip a couple days with their pooping and it is totally fine. I think even up to like 8-9 days is till considered normal. As long as her pees are fine, I wouldn't worry.
