My 71 yo mother was diagnosed with stage IIIB ovarian cancer in July, 2008 and because of preexisting pernicious anemia she opted not to do chemotherapy and do only alternative cancer treatments.

For many months her CA 125 (cancer marker) continued to rise and we were discouraged but we kept trying different combinations of treatments and in the last three months her CA 125 has dropped 57% with a 50% drop in the last 8 weeks. We are thrilled. Her CA 125 is not yet normal but it is closer than it has been since the diagnosis. Perhaps more importantly she feels great, looks great and says that she is "only sick on paper."

So many people have been so negative about alternative cancer treatment, from oncologists, to family members to friends and although we know they mean well, it has been difficult to manage cancer while at the same time defending our choices, sometimes against some pretty harsh criticism. One oncologist said that if she didn't do the chemo she would be dead in 9 months. Well, its nine months now and SHE IS FINE. It's a wonderful feeling to share happy news with them.

My mom is on about 140 pills a day, not including the powders, drops and shots. We have been working quite hard at this. The main drugs/supplements that seem to be working are a DCA / Artimissinim protocol in combination with Zadaxin and low dose Naltrexone with high dose Alpha Lipoic Acid. She also takes high doses of Curcumin, U-Fucoidan, Lactoferrin, Green Tea, medicinal mushrooms and Selenium, among others.

Mom's diet is restrictive to say the least. No refined sugars, no wheat, no dairy, low carb, no red meat or pork and LOTS of greens and everything as organic as possible. In fact, after diagnosis, she went on a green juice diet for as long as she could take it. She lasted 11 days, which was great and really changed the ph of her system. She also logged about 60 hours in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, although she has been doing less of that recently. She has acupuncture and IV vitamins 2x week and massage 2x month. It has all been working so it is worth the committment. I just wish medicare would pay for at least some of it. Since they don't, her secondary insurance won't kick in and the treatments are very expensive. Oh well!

Thanks for posting all this.
I've heard such promising things about low dose naltrexone.
It's very impressive that someone her age would be so open to alternative therapies - especially an 11 green juice fast!
That's awesome.
Yes, it is too bad that it's all so expensive and that medicare won't pay.
This stuff does get expensive!
