Speaking from exp here...if you know when you ovulated, I wouldn't mess with explaining. I have given my real LMP and explained that I was charting, know when I o'd, and don't have a 28 day cycle before, and even though my practice was great, it was just not worth the hassle IMO.

Your LMP date is used (instead of your EDD or adjusted EDD) pervasively for insurance billing, testing, and at any referrals. Some people don't understand, and others don't believe you really know. I had to explain/argue over and over, even at the hospital when I was 'overdue'. I had a male OB tell me no woman is able to discern when she ovulates (????) It was also used to recommend all sorts of unecessary tests like an early dating ultrasound and NSTs at the end.

Now I always just give my LMP as 2 weeks before I know I ovulated, and it's smooth sailing.

I was wondering this also today- as I'm qualifying for a government funded home birth- but if your overdue than you will be forced to go to hospital. So we were trying to conceive and I'm just going to tell the midwife my ovulation date rather than my EDD- which is June 14- and by my conception due date is June 21- however because hubby and I were trying we were quite frisky and it's harder to say which day was the actual conception day. (sorry tmi) anyone else in this boat?

This time around, I have the same issue...know when I ovulated but not sure if I concieved that day or if the egg might have hung around and fertilized in the days following. I went with a few days after, since I know I tend to go over 40 weeks and the window for 'term' is skewed in favor of early rather than late.

Even if you are honest about your LMP, they just calculate it based on ovulation, not necessarily conception, so I wouldn't worry about it!!!
