This weekend my MIL taught me how to knit and purl. I basically practiced very little making rows that ended up being about the size of a small pot holder with just some excess yarn she had.
Now I "think" I can knit a soaker. I just bought the little turtle knits pattern. Am I crazy to think I can do this? Do you think I should practice more or just jump on in. I don't really want to make pot holders or scarfs I won't use and a blanket seems like it would take forever and just finished crocheting a blanket so I don't want to do that again.

Id just jump in and go, but thats the kind of person I am. Maybe try something smaller first? Like the little ball from LTK, I think it looks so cute, was gonna do that for my first project but did the LTK hat instead (which btw I have to redo when I finish the LTK apron top). Just realize that if you jump in and have this be your first project there will be errors.

You have more experience than I had when I taught myself to knit so I could make LTK soakers. You even have a tutor to show you what to do if you get stuck (I had to figure it out from books). I say, go for it!

Definitely go ahead and try it. Make sure you have a good book to look up things you aren't sure about (or a knitting friend on call, or something like that), and just go for it. I hadn't knit in about 15 years, and never really knew anything more complicated than knit and purl anyway when I started knitting again. I knit one little hat for my nephew and then figured I could knit an all in one outfit for him after that, from a Debbie Bliss pattern to boot! I was a little frustrated, but I made it! So you can definitely do a soaker, we believe in you!

Here's the bear outfit

(That's my DS wearing it--it's now gone through three babies for Halloween, and I think my newest nephew might get to wear it this Halloween! Hand knit=heirloom!)
