We recently moved from Europe and we don't want to give any vaccine to our toddler. We are in California at the moment and she will probably be homeschooled or go to a Waldorf school. My question since I read all kind of things is: Am I obliged by law to vaccinate my daughter?

From what I've read, homeschooled children are safe from the new vaccine laws in California.

A Waldorf school would be considered a private school, would it not? So if you sent your child to a Waldorf school, they would by law, require to be vaccinated.

Here's a link to some info http://www.nvic.org/Vaccine-Laws/state-vaccine-requirements/california.aspx

It seems that ONLY home based schooling environments are exempt. Anything else and you must vaccinate.

So no, you are NOT legally obligated to vaccinate, as long as you homeschool.

I'm sure others with more information will weigh in if I've steered you wrong.

I believe there is a horde of lawyers waiting to challenge the new law. Apparently they can't do a challenge until the first child is kicked out of school.

Interesting.

Waldorf schools are founded on Rudolf Steiner's ideas or anthroposophy and anthroposophical medicine - similar to homeopathy. Suzanne Somers went to Germany for the mistletoe treatment of cancer; this has its origin in anthroposophical medicine.

A 1999 study of children in Sweden showed that in anthroposophical schools, only 18% had received MMR vaccination, compared to a level of 93% in other schools nationally.
Yet, if one wants to send their child to a Waldorf school in California, they would have to vaccinate to the CDC schedule.

If you find a doctor who will sign a medical exemption, your daugher can go to school without vaccines. An exemption is not necessary for homeschooling.

There are doctors in California who will sign medical exemptions. Waldorf parents in your area might be a good source of referrals to such doctors.
