Am I the only one who changes their baby while they sleep?

Does anyone else sneak up on their sleeping bundle and slip in a diaper change before they turn out for the night?! I feel like such a dork, but I've gotten into the habbit of sneaking up on my son and carefully changing him around 11:00pm when I go to bed. He doesn't wake up when I do it, and lately he's been sleeping until around 8-9:00am. Yikes! My other kids never did this. He's 4.5 months and I nurse him around 9-10:00pm and don't hear from him until morning lately. Wow! Will it last? Maybe, just maybe it's that magic midnight change! Might want to try it! : )

PS. *totally* off topic question...is the nojo sling not a good one? I can't seem to make it work. Do I just need to learn how to use it or is there another easier one out there?

I am still usually surprised that C has fallen asleep for the night (keep expecting another nursing)... so he's not in a night diaper when he falls asleep (he's 2.5mo). So yes, I almost always change him before I go to sleep and at this point he sleeps through it. During the day he's a really light sleeper and noises, movement, etc wake him up. At night he sleeps much more deeply. At least so far. (crossing fingers...lol)
no, youre not the only one

tristan doesnt pee at night anymore, but before he stopped night wetting we changed all thru the night. this babe will get the same treatment.

i hope that if i am ever bedridden in diapers someone does the same for me :LOL

tabitha

btw, he is 22 months and almost fully potty learned, of his own choice (i have never encouraged it) i really believe this has helped.

I don't change my dd, even though she is a super soaker at night. That may sound really really gross to some mamas, but she has major sleep issues as it is. She sometimes will take 3-4 hours to fall back asleep if she wakes up enough. We just can't risk it...all 3 of us are up all night then, miserable.

We put her in a fleece lined diaper and her little bottom stays pretty dry. Oh, she's 28 mos BTW.
I change right before bed too, unless he's so asleep I don't want to disturb him. Usually he wakes up enough to nurse before we all turn in for the night. He'll then go 9 hours, so I think a nice dry bottom at the start is a plus!

I just wanted to add that if it were feasible for us to change her during the night, I would. Like Tabitha said, I hope someone treats me well if I am even in diapers again!
I totally admire you for changing Tristan 24/7!

Lucky you to have such a good sleeper! We STILL haven't experienced a wake-free night, and my "babies" are almost 16 months old. We changed them all through the night until they stopped being wet (I think around six months). We very rarely change them at night these days, simply because they tend to save up their pee until early morning. They are always soaked when they wake up (around 7:00 or 8:00), but when I check them at other points in the night (i.e. when they wake as we come to bed), they're usually dry. If they're wet, we change them, but it is not a pretty scene. They scream and scream and scream. They just want to nurse. Luckily, that rarely happens!

Re: the sling. . . check out the babywearing forum! I'm sure someone will be able to help you out, although I must say that I have heard not-so-good things about the nojo, and don't care for it myself.

I usually check/change my daughter before going to bed. She has been holding it a lot more lately and sometimes will even wake up dry. But still no interest in the potty

No way I will touch my son while he is sleeping. You cant even put covers on him!! He would be all
"whoo hoo time to get up" or cry his arse off for 2 hours. (I would change him if it was feasable)

Well, ds woke every 2-4 hours for over a year so I had plenty of opportunities to change his diaper without waking him up.

I don't change my dd during the night, but that's only because if I wake her to change her she'll think it's play time and be up for a few hours. I make sure to put an extra infant CPF inside her Baby Textiles prefold and top it off with wool so she's not completely drenched in the morning. Her heaviest pee is usually when she wakes up so she stays pretty dry most nights.
I have done it a couple times, but she usually wakes up.
I stopped this a Looooong time ago. When DS was about a month old I realized that changing him was so upsetting, we were both getting less sleep because of it!!! There have been a rare few times when I have noticed him very wet and change him in his sleep, very carefully...but these are rare like I said! I say let sleeping babies lie....

Heck NO, He goes right into his night time diaper when hes ready for bed! My son still wakes up nearly every hour most nights and If I changed him, hed have a fit, so I dont!
I did untill he was like 2 months though cause he was in preemie diapers till 1 month/ newborn diapers (yucky sposies) till 2 months and those leak really badly every 2 hrs or so!

Shoot! You're all making it sound like my little one will eventually start to wake up if I keep this up! But I don't think I can leave him alone! I just hate the thought of him peeing in the diaper at 11:00pm and staying in it until 8:00am!

It's so funny that I'm saying this too because I remember when I first started CDing (when my second child was 2) and it had never occured to me that a child could require a diaper change in the middle of the night (unless they had done some newborn pooping,) and now here I am changing my baby like 12-18 times a day! When I first started cloth, I thought it was so strange to change a baby that often! But I guess cloth and disposables are so different!

Even now, when I'm with my friends (none of whom CD) I think they think I'm weird because i change my guy so often. But I think it's weird that I used to throw every diaper away! Funny how much Cding changes you. I love cloth! I can't imagine not using cloth. Huh, I sure wish I'd known then what I know now. (This is my 3rd baby.)

Smiles,
Sara

Sara, I'm so glad you've stuck with it through the stinky hemp and front loader issues and evrything, and are glad you did! Did you get a new machine? I totally agree with you about changing his cloth often and enjoying it, and doing it while asleep, too, just for the pure joy of knowing that the diaper is NOW DRY, when before it was wet agianst him!

Thanks Angelica for the encouragement.

So what are you using these days? I've switched to prefolds with a snappi. Then I can use oxygen bleach and whatever else I need to use to get them clean and not worry about damaging them. I never would have thought that I'd be using prefolds, wool, and as soon as I get my period back mama cloth! It's so funny how children change us. At first I thought prefolds would just be toooo hard. Now, its no big deal. I just love using cloth on him. And if that's what I need to use for now, then I'll use them.

I didn't get a new machine. Felt bad at the thought of returning it. So if I need to switch to fitteds when my guy gets older, then I'll see if I can find a top loader cheaply/used for washing dipes.

HOpe all is well with you! I was thinking about you the othe rday when I saw you posted here and wondering how you are!

I don't change her when she's asleep because otherwise she would not get back to sleep for 1/2 the night like she did last night.
I WISH she'd sleep till 8:00!!! 6:30 for her *every morning*

I was advised not to use the nojo (or whatever) sling when I started looking into babywearing.
If one of my boys wakes up at night I will but I don't wake them.

Also, I couldn't get the Nojo sling to work for me either.. it just seemed to big and my son was to low.

Oh, we're great. At 9 months the bug is HUGE
! What happened to your smooth sugarpeas?

I suggest a wrap sling like the Moby or a Didymos (you can get one used on ebay). I love those! I also have an ergo that I like now that he's older. I never did like an asymmetrical sling setup.
