My mother and I got into it today and I have never seen her talk about any group with such hatred. Yes she's intolerant/hateful about a lot of things and we don't see eye to eye on a lot of things but this just shocked me. I mentioned to my mom my half sis (from my dad) was thinking of moving to my state and had asked me for advice on which city to move to. The only ones that met her criteria also happen to be known as cities with very high populations of gays. My mom flipped out and started going on about ****** this and ****** that, I was totally shocked. I finally called her on it and asked her if she would say a city just nothing but a bunch of ******s (MDC filtered it but its the N word)and she was shocked and tried telling me how she had NEVER EVER used that word and it was totally different then using the word ******. From my POV there really isn't much difference, there both hateful slurs and I don't care for either one of them.

I swear I hope she moves soon because she is pushing it, last week dd came home and told me I was going to hell because I didn't believe in grandma's god and yada yada yada.. I was PO'd to say the least. I really do wish I could cut my mom out of my life most of the time and I don't really have that option

No difference between those words IMO! I am amazed that people think that saying ****** is not nearly as bad as the other word. They are both horrible words used to hurt a group of people.

I have to honestly say that until the whole Grey's Anatomy thing I did not know that ****** was a hurtful name. As a african-american, or black, or colored (as my father calls me) female I just had no way of knowing this was an offensive term. NO I am not from a small town, born in Detroit, lived in Washington, DC, now live outside of Chicago. Yes I have homosexual relatives and friends. No I do not have any problems with homosexuals. I belive in gay marriage and hate crimes should be punish severly. I just had no way of know that the term was so offensive. It's not a term I use. And without using it I guess you never know that it is offensive. I did see a difference between the two slurs until gay people said they found it offensive. I guess you don't know until someone tells you.
