I wish I could take credit for finding this little tidbit on my own, but alas that's why I have a great friend named Mark. He found it and explained it all so I would go check it out......

Over on Salon, which requires you to either subscribe or watch commercials, there's an article that's worth doing one of those two things to read...that is, if you want to be amazed that this kind of thing goes on in our Congress. Here's an excerpt...

http://www.salon.com/news/feature/20.../index_np.html

Quote:
On March 23, the Dirksen Senate Office Building was the scene of a coronation ceremony for Rev. Sun Myung Moon, owner of the conservative Washington Times newspaper and UPI wire service, who was given a bejeweled crown by Rep. Danny K. Davis, D-Ill. Afterward, Moon told his bipartisan audience of Washington power players he would save everyone on Earth as he had saved the souls of Hitler and Stalin -- the murderous dictators had been born again through him, he said. In a vision, Moon said the reformed Hitler and Stalin vouched for him, calling him "none other than humanity's Savior, Messiah, Returning Lord and True Parent."

gosh, lets read that again...

yep, you read it right...

Evidently there were between 12 and 81 U.S. Congressfolks (both sides of the aisle) attended this ceremony to honor a man who, though a convicted felon with rabidly anti-gay and anti-Jewish views, claims to be the Second Coming and to be destined to bring about world peace.

To repeat: This took place in the halls of Congress. With many of our elected representatives in attendance. And as far as I can tell, though some of those Congresspeople deny they were there or claim they didn't realize the nature of the event, it is not in dispute that this occurred.

If you have enough money, you can get away with just about anything in this world. But you knew that already. And mind you, some people just love to post quotes from the Washington Times.... This nutjob is the owner of the Washington Times....just for those who missed that salient fact...

alas, I'm not interested in the opinions of that paper..and i think you can imagine why...

That was bizarre.

Moonie, there, has some good ideas though (
):

Moon has also made inroads in the Bush administration, as Salon reported last September, with plum appointments for former or present Moon VIPs, and almost half a million dollars in abstinence-only grants supporting Moon's anti-sex crusade. To teach teens that "free sex" is revolting, they're asked by Moon's followers to drink other people's spit out of a cup, and then consider how much more vigilant you must be when sharing other body fluids.
:puke Ick, ick and double ick. But, if you drink the spit does that mean you get a green light on "free sex"?

Had to :LOL at "love organ of life". I think I'll share that one with DH later.

Can you drink your SO's spit or do they hand you some stranger's spit?

Not that drinking spit sounds all that appetizing, just wondering.

I will have to agree Tracy,

I doubt it will affect my reading the Washington Times but I might think
now and then when reading some articles. :LOL

Look the only reason I didn't post this stuff here months ago, is because I did post about Moon's possible influences here once and it was all poo-pooed. So I gave up.

If you poo-poo something long enough it'll probably bite you in the @ss sometime just to get your attention and show you that there's something to it.

Back months ago when this happened, I took a look and I thought it was quite freaky. But I kept my mouth shut about it here.

i missed your posting, JITM. I've been down on the Washington Times for a long time because I do think Moon is nuts and I just can't get that vision out of my head whenever I see quotes from people on his payroll.

Yesterday Campaign Desk pointed out the press' affinity for the optimism v. pessimism storyline as the candidates labor to spin their message on the economy. Today, The Washington Times offered up its version, demonstrating once again its uncanny talent for distorting direct quotes.

Since early April, Sen. Kerry has regularly told anyone that will listen that Americans are suffering through "the worst job recovery since the Great Depression."

Then, today, The Washington Times reported, "Now that consumer spending is rising and voter confidence in the economy is growing, Mr. Kerry calls it the worst economic recovery since the Great Depression.'" (italics added)

Did Kerry slip up, or did the Washington Times misquote him?
it goes on...you know the answer....

The NY Times this week had a front page photo (below the fold) of the "crowned" Reverend Moon - and the accompanying article was really entertaining as both the Republicans and Democrats scurried to diminish the whole thing. They went along with it - of course - for the money and the influence he wields - not because, of course, that they truly believed him to be the Messiah of the Universe. At least I hope not.

You can probably still find the article on the NY Times webpage if you do a search. The photo is priceless.

Ah yes, our government at work.
