So sad. I was hoping this wouldn't happen, but I didn't really have much hope.
I can't believe it, I was just thinking about that this morning. How awful!

Gotta think.

VEry Sad for his family, but I understand on the tactical level why this terrorist strategy cannot ever be allowed to work. They'd only go after more people.

Math with human lives sucks, just truly sucks.

How very sad. I feel terrible for his family having to imagine his last days.
It's SUCH a shame.

Why oh why does Bush continue protecting/associating with the Saudis when they harbor such criminals as the ones who did this?

Bush will get a big bounce in his support from this...and he will exploit it- good timing for him. I hate how cynical they have made me.

Privatization of war might not be such a good idea in the long run if this type of thing keeps happening, y'know? Sad to see the disposable nature of life as it seems to be regarded by our government and the terrorists alike.

I wonder how many innocent civilian Iraqis were beheaded by our bombs? Seen THOSE pictures? Not pretty. This is no prettier; yet no worse.

Such a shame and a waste of life and resources. When will it end? Who will be the leader and stop first?

What more can be said? My sympathies to his poor family and all families devastated by this war and all it has brought with it, and my sorrow for how war has touched so many in recent years: Iraqis and Afghanis in particular in addition to all the American families suffering losses now.

Joyce in the mts.

DH wonders why the Saudis don't turn the tactics around on AQ. "you kill him and we'll kill every AQ member we have..." sort of thing. Horrid? Yes, but it'd give them pause I bet. He thinks their loyalties are too divided, or rather some in the Saudi military have loyalty divided.

Must be the Celt in me, but I think these actions of theirs should cost them until they cease doing them.

I'm not particularly proud of that, but sometimes you have speak the language the other will understand. Sadly, death seems to be what those particular fanatics understand all too well.

So sad this is happening. What can anyone do?
Meiri, ITA with your dh. I think what they give we should give back twice as much. People of this barbaric nature cannot be reasoned with.
An attack by some of our soldiers decapitated a little girl recently. Should we kill two of them to make up for it?

Yes, you've made it clear that the lives of brown people aren't worth much to you.

Meiri amongst these people are many who quite willingly kill THEMSELVES in the name of their cause. Their own deaths would be chalked up to martyrdom and simply make them heroes in the eyes of those who already agree with them. Killing two "al-qaeda operatives" for every civilian that they kill would CERTAINLY backfire. Also, the Saudis are not known for their just and transparent justice system, just how many innocent people do you think would be executed in the name of this policy. Anger and Sadness don't make for good strategy.

"Paul considered Saudi Arabia his home. He loved the people and the country," said an FBI agent speaking on behalf of Johnson's relatives.

"They also know this act of terrorism was committed by extremists and does not represent the Saudi Arabia that Paul often spoke and wrote about to his family," said Joseph Billy Jr., special agent in charge of the FBI's Newark office.

Whoa. Look SQ and I haven't exactly agreed on things in this forum but she did not say any such thing.

I take racism very seriously. But to accuse someone of racism when they are NOT being racist also abuses the severity of the issue, IMO.

I do not agree with SQ on this issue. But I do not think she has or is making a racist statement at all.

Rachel--that is an awful story. Do you have any references for it? It really should be made much more public.

For once I agree with you sq!

I think this is a bit different situation, if you are upset that a bomb from our army decapitated a little girl (which I am!! ) then we all need to take that up with Bush and others that started this war. Soldiers are on orders, they have no choice but to do what they are told if they want to keep out of trouble and keep their pay. Sadly civillians and soldiers die at war, I highly doubt a soldier purposly wanted to behead a small child who could have been the same age as one of his own.

I'm so sad for the Johnson family

well sq, that's what THEY think too. So you both have something in common.

I just keep thinking of the Brisses of Arabia.
if anyone read what SQ had to say on other threads regarding muslims, you'd understand why mahdohkt said that.

if it weren't so off topic, i'd wonder what you're spin is on all the barbarism OUR soldiers initiated over in Iraq, SQ...

anyway...

my heart is heavy for his family. i'm sorry the cycle of violence keeps on going.
