Check out the link to forbes at the bottom of the article. It will give you stats on the ten healthiest and unhealthiest states, including health insurance coverage and interestingly, immunization coverage.

Of COURSE my state is in the bottom ten. YEE HAW!
Yay MN! #4

Obesity, lmao, dude.. we need that extra fat here!
Texas is always bad. Always. People just aren't that healthy here....I really don't like Texas. I've been dying to move to NH for SO many years..but dh says it's too cold. NH was #3 and Texas was #46!!
umm.. Wow.

Mississippi: 49

Prevalence of Obesity (percent of population): 50
I am surprised Oregon isn't in the top 10. I guess Portland doesn't make the rest of the state.

I would like to know where it ranks though. Is there a list for the other 30 states or am I missing it?

I find low vax rates healthier.

Maybe that is why Oregon didnt make the list.

HALF of Texans don't have health insurance (I'm one of them). That is appalling.
We need a lot of fat here, too but thankfully we still didn't make it in the bottom ten.. I would think we were down there somewhere, though.

I wonder if they are basing this on BMI? If so, BMI is not really an indicator of health or of body composition. Granted, Mississippi is an incredibly unhealthy place to live, but BMI means nothing to me.

According to my BMI, I'm obese, and I'm nothing of the sort. Lots of athletes have high BMI's, and most of them would be considered obese if based entirely on their BMI (I'm not an athlete, I just have lots of muscle).

Not surprised by the list at all. Especially the unhealthy list.

I noticed that!! 48%, eh? Well, you know how the health department is always saying something like, 75% or more of the population has to be covered to prevent epidemics? Hm. Makes you scratch your head. Why haven't we been having epidemics now?

I'm trying to figure out how my state is number 2.

Have you ever heard of the Loco Moco? Spam is very popular here. Rice and gravy, potato and macaroni salad are popular side dishes. Not a choice of potato or macaroni salad, but potato and macaroni salad, one dish.

And I don't for one minute believe all the people I see around here who can't walk 10 paces without wheezing are tourists. Seriously, I cannot get over some of the carby, greasy, fried junk people eat here.

Granted we're in a fairly sparsely populated area, but still....
I guess all the beautiful, thin, healthy people are on the other islands.

Next thing you know they'll be telling me people in Wisconsin don't eat cheese.

Yep. Us too. Well, when I'm pregnant I qualify for medicaid...but for some reason when I'm not pregnant I don't. I've been trying to get everything that has been bothering me over the years checked out before the baby is born because after that I can't afford to go.
