When I go to do a diaper load the diaper pail just reeks of ammonia. I have no issues with the actual diapers once they are clean, no smell when she pees, etc. Is this normal? I usually wash every three days. Today was super bad, made my eyes hurt. I did try and strip them a week or so ago, just to do it since it had been a while, and there were no extra suds at all. So ammonia smell normal after 3 days of sitting there?
The longer pee sits around, the more it breaks down into ammonia. So yes, it is normal if you are doing a wash every three days to get eye-watering pee diapers- in fact it can be normal to get a bit of ammonia smell from a nighttime diaper after a long sleep. As long as you don't have a rash or funky smell right when she pees, everything sounds fine!
It was so bad today it made my eyes water. Then I was wondering is it supposed to do this. Good to know.
