I've got so access to pounds and pounds of coffee grounds (organic), and I've put them on my acid loving plants: hydrangea, arbor vitae, camillas, rhodies.

What PH do Cacti and succulents like? I've got Peonies, too, and lots of perennials. Any ideas of other acid loving plants?

If you compost them first, they won't change the ph so much, and you can use them anywhere. Roses and gardenias really thrive on coffee grounds used as mulch, they love the acidity and the way they retain moisture but don't keep the ground soaking wet. Asiatic and tiger lilies also seem to thrive on them, as do hydrangeas (but changing the ph may change their color a bit) and azaleas and rhododendrons.

Starbucks has a program that offers free coffee grounds for composting. I don't like Starbucks as a company, but am willing to take them up on their offer
I thought I would just add a few buckets to my compost pile. So my question is should I layer with leaves or something?

Sorry to hijack!!!

All talk about composting coffee grounds is welcome here!

Yes, I'd layer the grounds with other things. Generally, I think that's a good thing to do, particularly if you have clay soil like I have.

I don't really understand how composting is going to make the grounds less acidic, though. The acid has to go somewhere. I know that my grounds are 67% lowering in acidity than regular coffee, though, because I have a cold brew coffee system (love it; it's the best!). I just really wish I could put the grounds straight onto my cacti bed. It would be so much easier and looks so nice and rich on the ground.
