I had an almost great experience today while I was out with my son... There were two moms and two about 2.5 y/o girls at the sandbox with their moms.... Girl1 took a toy from Girl2 and Girl2 started to freak out and run away screaming at the top of her lungs. Girl1's mama came over to Girl1 and asked her to look at Girl2's face and to tell her what she thought that meant. Girl1 said "She's sad." Girl1's mama said, "that's right. She's sad because she wasn't finished playing with that toy and it was taken from her. " Girl1's mama calls over to Girl2 and says, "Girl2, can you use your words and tell Girl1 that you were not finished playing with that toy? Would you use your words and ask her if you can have it back?" Girl2 asked Girl1 if she could have it back. Girl1 said, "sure!" and handeded it to her.

I smiled at Girl1's mama and told her that it was so refreshing to see a mom not hit or yell in a situation like that and that I really was impressed with how she handled it.

"Thanks!" she said... and THEN...she added : "but don't get me wrong... I do smack her on her bottom when she's bad, too...just not in front of other people" :

I ALMOST had a lasting good feeling!
