I could talk labias and vulvas all day long but when it comes to the male anatomy, I am lost.

Where can I learn the proper names for the intact penile parts. All I know is slang (head, shaft etc..)

Suse,

I need the help in the compost pile from H*LL and we are redoing the gardens this fall. Wanna come play??

So does the frenum get cut off during a circumcision??

Penile shaft, glans penis, urethra, scrotum = All obvious
Meatus = opening of the urethra
Frenar Band = AKA ridged band = The elastic band around the opening of the foreskin, removed during circumcision.
Frenulum = Web of skin attaching the foreskin to the glans on the ventral side. Other frenulums are under the tongue, between lips and gums and between the fingers. Mostly removed during circumcision and the sensitivity is always disabled. The sensory equivalent of the glans clitoris.
Corona = The ridge at the base of the glans.
Coronal suculus = AKA coronal groove. The groove around the base of the glans.
Raphe = The skin ridge that runs from the inner mucosal skin down the shaft over the scrotum and on to near the anal cleft.
Mucosal skin = The rough or wrinkly looking skin inside the foreskin or the skin just below the glans on a circumcised penis.
Suspensory ligament = The ligament that pulls the flacid penis back toward the body.
Genital tubercle = The "bud" that is the genesis of the penis or clitoris in the fetus.
Spongiform Cavernosa = (sp?) The structure of the penis shaft. Becomes engorged with blood on erection.

Did I miss any?

ps the only reason i knew what the latin 'glans' literally meant is the book i just read on walnuts (juglans, the acorn of jove); it all comes back to plants with me. man, i can't think of anything i'd rather do right now than *someone else's* yard/nursery work. lol, i actually went & pulled weds at my *ex's* new place, just to get a break from my own! ugh, genocide to bermuda grass! i am thinking very ungentle thoughts about the people who plant this stuff!

i knew you'd get all that technical stuff down, frank; but did i do ok for a girl, remembering 10th grade physiology taught by nuns?

Holy moly, I had no idea, talk about being uneducated. I don't remember Sol Gordon ever mentioning any of all that technical penis business in my human sexuality class at good 'ol SU in 1982.

Since you are all on the subject, I am wondering if someone can let me know if my uncircumsized babe, nearing 1 year this month, is OK as far as his penis is concerned. I had never really touched him at all to check his penis in anyway (other than the usual external washing of course) until maybe a month or so ago I had the thought that maybe I should just check to be sure there was no "yucka" trapped under his foreskin. What a surpise I got when I could in no way even move that skin at all. It seemed that there is just enough of an opening for his urine to flow through but the pening of that skin does not move/relax at all for me to even get a tiny glimpse at what is below. I know that with my first, his skin did move and you could see a bit of the head even from a very very young age.

So????? is this unusual and will the opening change on it's own over time or through his own manipulation as he gets more 'exploratory'? Does anyone know if there is any cause for concern?

Sounds like he has a "tight" foreskin. Good for him!

http://www.cirp.org/library/normal/aap/

Here is what Dr. Fleiss wrote about it in "What your Doctor may not tell you about circumcision"
Page 194 (It's a great book you should have it handy)

The fact of the matter is that "tightness" of the foreskin is a safety mechanism that protects the
glans and urethra from direct exposure to contaminants and germs. The "tighter" foreskin also
keeps the boy's glans warm, clean, and moist. As long as your son can urinate, he is perfectly
normal. There is no age by which a child's foreskin must be retractable.
Be on your guard, Never let a doctor or anyone try to retract your child's foreskin. Optimal
hygiene of the penis demands that the foreskin of infants and children be left alone. Premature
retraction may tear the skin of the penis open, causing your child extreme pain. There is no
legitimate medical justification for retraction. The child's discomfort is proof of that. (END)

Well alright Gitti. Glad I asked here and didn't have the doctor trying to "make it right". Ok, i won't worry now and will let nature take its course.

Would be curious to hear from other moms with UC boys and how long it took for their foreskins to retract naturally.

You did great! However, It appears you've been doing some up-close-and-personal inspections to augument your 10th grade physiology education.

Hi Patricia, my son is only 23 months but I thought I would contribute anyway.(I'm like that) My son's penis is the same as the day he was born, a bit bigger maybe(added that for dh's benefit)
but other than that unchanged. From what I understand it coud stay that way until adulthood. Here is a great pamphlet with illustrations that I love, I found it very informative.

Thank you for the links.

Happy to be lingerin' in DA learnin'...

Peace,
Patricia
