Well, my little guy is here! I started showing signs of pre-eclampsia in early March. I was placed on bedrest. On Monday, the 10th I had a follow up clinic visit and didn't get to go home. My BP was even higher and there was more protein in my urine. I stayed overnight in the hospital for observation on Monday night. On Tuesday morning I was told the docs were leaning towards delivery. At the same time as all of this is going on, I came down with a terrible cold. I asked for 24 hours so I could be stronger for the delivery. We decided on a compromise. I started the mag sulfate Tuesday morning and we would do the cervidil (sp?) later that afternoon. By Wednesday morning, I was having regular contractions about 5 mins apart. My condition continued to worsen. The docs were now fully in charge of my care (instead of CNM's). I'll spare alot of the annoying details...but I was forced to take pain meds in order to keep my BP's reasonable. Finally after 3 tries anesthesia got the epidural to work. My blood pressure then, of course, crashed through the floor. They spent the next hour trying to stabilize me. A little while later, the doc happened to check me and I was complete. I was sooo excited to turn the darn epidural off and feel my labor again. Everyone left the room when I was complete (to prepare for his arrival), so I had some time to regain feeling and start pushing on my own. I was really enjoying being in control of something again! It took a good half hour for me to feel the urge to push. But, soon after everyone was gathered around, he arrived. It was a very easy delivery given his size. Apgars were 7 and 9. He pinked up nicely and had a good cry. The NICU staff let me hold him for awhile before they took him for observation. He is doing great. He never needed any supplemental oxygen. As for me. I spent the next few nights in utter, sleepless hell. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't sleep. It was terrible. Finally on Friday night, the doc ordered a chest x-ray that revealed I have pneumonia. Despite that, they did let us come home yesterday. I still feel like I got hit by a Mack truck, but the baby seems to be doing great. He is very sweet and is nursing ok. I haven't had much strength to pump, but am hopeful my milk will still come in. I forgot to add that he weighed 4 lbs 10 oz and is 18 inches tall.

Congratulations Momma!!! I'm sorry about all of your health challenges but from your story it really sounds like you have been making the most of a tough situation. I esp. like that your docs let you wait to get the urge to push.
