I live in the UP, but I am now down in the AA/Howell area for my business- It could be a few weeks- or years not sure... So I am looking for playgroups, LLL meetings, other type of AP meetings, mamas to hang with- have tea, have playdates--- anything to get around earthy mamas and like minded parenting....

Let me know what is going on! I am pretty open

DH is selling all around the area, so let me know, I can have him drop me off anyplace if need be- I know that there are some Redford mamas here- I am open to that too!

I know that there are several LLL meetings in the AA area. Check out their website (llli.org), and there should be listings. We'll be having a coffee night, soon. Okay, I'll go start a thread and find some interest. I know that there are a couple of moms from that area who come out for it. We'd love to have you for as long as you're around. Also, it's probably about time for a playgoup, but ours is rather north of you (rochester, utica, clarkston areas). You're welcome to come, though, we'd be happy to have you for that too. I'm on call for two births in the next two weeks, so the playgroup will have to wait a little, but we could do the coffee night...the grownups can do without me if I have a birth! I'll start threads today. Keep an eye out. Welcome down to where the trolls live. Hope you like it. It is certainly different than copper country...(I lived in Marquette for a while)! I grew up here, and when I'd come downstate for a visit, I'd suffer from culture shock!

I am new to A2 and looking for playgroups too. I have heard about the Mothering Arts one on TH and am looking into the LLL. My daughter is 20 mth and not sure what the age groups are like at either. When we lived in the Detroit area I went to the LLL of ********** and their meeting had mostly young babies. Nothing wrong with that, I just think Emma might enjoy a bit of older company too.
Erin Mom 2 Emma

I went to my first LLL meeting last month, in Plymouth (pretty close to A2), and there were a few babies but mostly toddlers/children.

I would love to find an AA playgroup as well. I live in Saline, just outside of Ann Arbor. We have only been here less than a year and we don't know anyone with kids.

I work at home so I get kind of lonely for adult company and I think DS gets bored with me sometimes.

We moved here in Sept of 05, so we haven't been here long either. Saline is pretty close to us, we live just north of MI ave off of Platt. We are also vegetarian. Are your children Veg as well?

I don't think this has been mentioned here, but there was an MDC spinoff Yahoo group created called NaturalMamas_Mich that has playgroups at the Ann Arbor Library, I think on Monday mornings. I live in Ferndale so it's a little far for me, but the rest of you A2 area moms might want to check it out! It's pretty new, I think they've only met 2-3 times so far, so it's not a long-established group or anything.

Wow! That is really close to us! We are also off of Michigan Ave. I often go up Platt to get up to Whole Foods & Trader Joe's.

I have one son, who is 19 months and we are all vegetarian, too.

Let m know if you ever want to get together. I could use some mama friends in the area.

That would be fun! I am a PhD STudet at U of M and am finishing up the term over the next couple of weeks, but come late April I am as free a bird again. It might be warm enough to meet up a park or somewhere by then too.
: Erin

I just had another idea...
We go to Gymboree on TH morns at 9:30. I know you can do a free class there if you don't already go. It may be another good place to meet up while it is still so cold?!?!

How are the Gymboree classes? I had thought of trying one of those.

The only thing I have heard about the Ann Arbor Gymboree is that it is pretty germy. Someone on an email list said their kid gets sick every time they go there.

I probably couldn't make a 9:30 class though. Mornings are hectic here (I work from home). It bums me out that pretty much every class or playgroup I have ever heard about is always in the morning. Usually later in the day is when I have time to get out of the house and that is when my son is antsy to get out and do stuff.

Have you guys been to Fantasy Forest yet? We took my son once and he had a nice time.

No, I have never even heard of Fantasy Forest. Where is it?

As for Gymboree, it is like any other place where lots of kids get together, so germs are passed. It looks pretty clean and they do wipe stuff down. Emma loves it. The other folks that go are fairly nice, not neceassily very AP, but nice folks none the less.

We did go to Jungle Java, but didn't really enjoy it. I am sure Emmie did, but too many laid back parents letting there older kids get way too aggressive and harmful to little ones.

Fantasy Forest is on Washtenaw, just east of US-23. It just opened in January. I have never been to Jungle Java, but it's a similar concept. Play area for kids and cafe area for adults.

My son didn't use any of the big kid climbing stuff, but he had fun in the pretend area where they have little toy kitchen and stuff like that. They also have a baby/toddler area for the littler ones.

We have only been once but I have been meaning to take him again.Maybe we could organize a meet-up there?

It's pretty inexpensive and they have very flexible hours.

We went on Friday and it was a little calmer than Jungle Java. Still a bit crazy but overall we had fun. Sure, I am for a meet up there.

Hey mamas!

There is a local playgroup that spun off the local parents list (arborparents, btw has been a great resource to us over the years)

You can send a subscribe message to: [email protected]

My daughter is 3.5 and I would love to hang with other WAHM/SAHM's in the area.

We live a short walk through a cool forest path to a tucked away park that is rarely used called Fritz Park. They recently renovated it. Its nicely shaded.

Let me know if anyone is up for a get together or just post to the playgroup list
