Let me ask now, because I know once dh sees the dyed prefolds he's going to ask if it's safe to use those dyes on something that will be touching our childrens' bottoms!

Are the procion dyes similar to using fabric that is already colored to begin with? (Can I tell dh that this is no different than wearing colored underwear? Or diapers made with fabric that came colored from the fabric store?)

fiber reactive dyes such as Procion MX are among the safest of all dyes, once they have been properly applied to fabric. Even people who are chemically sensitive report that clothing dyed with Procion MX dye is non-irritating. There is no permanent dye for use on cotton material that is safer to wear.
