My dd is 5.5 months, and 13 pounds. She's quite short and chubby. She has rolls on her thighs and lately I've noticed that her FB, especially when stuffed a lot for night, can leave some pretty serious red marks on her thighs. However, on the waist snaps, we still have room. Since medium FB's say they start at 13 pounds, and smalls are supposed to go up to 16 pounds, will mediums be humongous on her? If I loosen the waist snaps will that make any difference on the fit in the thigh?

Your DD sounds a lot like my DD at that age, and if I remember correctly that was the point where we could use both small and medium FBs. The smalls were trimmer but the mediums fit well too and definitely had more room in the thigh. If you want a comparison of waist and rise measurements of the smalls and mediums I could post it tomorrow for you.

And IMO with two rows of front snaps like that, the thigh snap setting does not get affected by the waist snap setting that much. Maybe if you need the very middle waist snaps it pulls the thigh a bit snugger than if the waist was looser... I can see that the middle waist snaps would not go very well with the furthest outside thigh snaps, but that's the only way they could impact each other in my mind.

DS went straight into FB mediums at birth - he was a chunk at 10lb 8 oz, and they fitted OK at first, and well by 13lbs. At 6 months he's now in mediums and larges - both fit fine. I think there's quite an overlap.

i switched over to mediums for my chunky thighed dd when she was 12 lbs 11 oz and 2 months old. like your dd, she had room in the waist (still snapping at the smallest setting) but the thighs were way too tight on the largest setting. mediums fit fine, if a bit loose at the waist at first. but, because of the weird fit, i've been moving away from fb and trying out a bunch of other pocket diapers.

You can cross over the snaps on a FB, lots of people don't realize that, but we had to do it with both dd & ds.
They both had such fat thighs that the size they were 'supposed' to be in left red marks, so we got the next size up, and crossed over the waist snaps. Worked perfectly.

Ifirst tried med FB on ds at 13.5 lbs and 8 wks. They fit great and nt even on the smallest setting. At 10 wks,he still fits his smalls too, though there isn't room for night stuffing in the smalls.
