I'd like to make DD a tank top or cap sleeved summer top in a cotton yarn (BTW there will be pink involved )

It occured to me that this might be the time to try a simple lace pattern so I tried searching... and didn't find a thing. I found a few basic tank tops online but almost all of them are for smaller sizes, I should make my DD a size 6 or 7 I think.

Does anyone know of a free or paid pattern that would look pretty in pink cotton that would give me a taste of lacework but not overwhelm me?

FIY these are some of the ones I came across:
http://theknittinggarden.com/gallery/aug-free-4.htm
http://thekingspottery.com/boogie_kidlet.htm
http://www.kerriesplace.co.uk/missiontank.html

If I were doing this (and I just might be, in size 3 or 4t, for a friend's daughter, but it will be purple!), I'd use a very simple stockinette pattern and "insert" the lacey/openwork pattern myself. Probably a simple eyelet/yarnover typet thing. You can easily find openwork patterns that you could work into the overall pattern. Just keep it simple - some of the more complicated ones can bunch up the fabric, I've noticed this when working them into dishcloth designs. That said.....

Try knittingpatterncentral.com for dishcloth patterns, and you'll see alllllll kinds of great lacework/openwork you could adapt into a simple stockinette pattern.
