Hi everyone, I've been meaning to start posting in this forum for the longest time and I figured better late than never! Actually, I did post a few times when I first found out I was pregnant, but then things got busy and I wasn't around for quite awhile.

I'm due 7/15 and its amazing to think that it is coming so soon! I have a dd who is 27months and we know that we are expecting a boy this time.

I'll be having a hospital birth. I seriously considered a homebirth and although I'd love to do it, we just couldn't bring ourselves to spend that much extra money. I had a good hospital birth experience with dd and hope that it goes as smoothly this time (different hospital)

Welcome back!

Isn't it odd that for so many of us our insurance will spend ooodles more on a hospital birth, than go with the lower cost option of a midwife and homebirth? My insurance won't cover a midwife, home birth, or a birthing center. I guess I'm not to bent out of shape since i have a high risk pregnancy, but if I didn't, I'd want the much less invasive stuff...
Welcome,
my insurance won't cover a midwife, or homebirth either, so off to the hospital we go....
Donna

Yes!! This is SO frustrating to me! But, really the whole medical and insurance system is so messed up that it isn't too surprising! I'm sure it will change someday...hopefully before I stop having babies (but I'm not holding my breath!)

Welcome!

It frustrates me too that I cannot get a homebirth in Sweden. I would have to pay for it out of pocket, and try to find a midwife to attend me - no easy task.

So, hospital it is for us as well. At least here hospital births are midwife based, and I won't get to see an OB unless there is a real problem - it is more like an American birth center. I'll have access to a bath, shower, accupuncture, birthing balls....you name it, they have it. The epidural rate in our local hospital is only 15%, so I am confident that they will encourage me to try other things before going for the drugs.

If it is anything like my hospital birth in Britain, I'll be a happy bunny!
