there aren't any peanut allergies in my family that i know of. nor in my dd's family that i know of. there are other food allergies in my family.

my dd is 2.5 and has been eating at least 2 big spoonfulls of pb a day! she eats other foods too but lately has been wanting pb. i've tried giving her some almond butter and she hates it. is giving her pb every day gonna harm her? like is it going to make her more likely to have allergies to it later? i can't stand pb so i haven't eaten it since i was a child. and dd is bf so she isn't getting any extra pb through my milk.

are there any nut butters that taste similar to pb?

I don't know about another nut butter with a similar taste to pb but IME eating it alot without a family history probably won't bring on an allergy because of her age. If you were giving it to a 6 month old I might say it's possible.

My ds loves pb he has been eating it since he turned 2 and he went through a stage where all he would eat was pb sandwiches 3 times a day! He refused to eat anything else for about 2 weeks and he does this about once a year now. He doesn't eat them daily anymore except when he gets on his sandwich kick. He is almost 6 and he isn't showing any allergies.

My 2 year old dd will eat it once and awhile but she isn't very interested.

If you are looking to avoid pb have you tried cashew butter?

It won't harm her at this age... but it sounds like you'd really rather just avoid it. If you're not already, you should use natural or organic PB. I was going to also mention cashew butter, but is looks like POL already beat me to it

One thing you could try is mixing them. This is how we helped my student with autism try almond butter - slowly mixing in more of it until he was willing to eat it alone.

She has just as much a chance of being allergic to (tree) nut butters as she does to peanut butter. If she has been eating it without a problem, I wouldn't worry too much. If you're concerned about how often she eats it, I'd just try cutting back on the number of times per week.
We are a VERY food allergic family so we don't even have peanut butter in the house any more (my youngest is 1 and I'm afraid of peanut exposure before 3 since he does have other allergies)

Peanuts are sprayed with a really nasty substance so I second the organic suggestion. They are also a difficult nut to digest, often causing secondary problems other than allergies. The suggestion to mix it with another nut butter, even two (almonds are the best nuts nutritionally) is a good one.

If you (or your child) don't care much for roasted almond butter, be sure to try RAW almond butter. It is very different than roasted almond butter. It's nothing like peanut butter, but man, it is sooo good. I much prefer raw almond butter to any nut butter. It's good even all by itself, or with a little coconut sprinkeld on top, or just on bread or muffins etc. It's very expensive, but we get ours at Trader Joe's and it's not too bad, organic raw almond butter is like $8 for a 16 oz. jar. (It's at least twice that at Whole Foods.)

I know nothing on the topic of nut allergies, just thought I'd chime in about how good raw almond butter is!
