Please, does anyone know of or have an OB GYN (not midwife) that refuses to perform routine infant circumcision?

I have nothing against midwives, but I must have an OB GYN since I had a c-section and I am not one to go VBAC.

Thank you

i dont live in nj, so i have no specific recommendations for you.
(if you have the time), how about call all the ob's in your insurance company's booklet of providers. after you find a few who dont do routine circs, ask around if they are good or not. i'd rather find a good ob who does circs but will work with you and *not* do one this time than someone who is not so hot and never circs, kwim?
maybe a dr who has midwives in his/her office may be more "alternative" and more likely to not circ.
you may want to add "nj, "nyc," or the area you are looking for in the title of the post since some people may not look at the thread thinking its not their area.

I would narrow the area, except that I wanted to know if any existed at all. If one did and they were far away, I would call them to see if they knew of any in my area.

It is looking more and more unlikely. I have heard of a few in MA.

ask at your local la leche league, i have never heard of routine circumcision, especially since it can be an enormous cultural/political issuse, and i was fairly certain that a pediatrician would perform a circumcision, were one to be performed, rather than an ob/gyn. i have a lot of friends in monmouth/ocean counties (i grew up there) and none of them are super-"crunchy", none of them circumcised their fellas, i'm sure you'll be able to find a practicioner who will suit your needs, good luck.

Sadly, in NJ the OB GYN does the circ, not the pediatrician. It is a very hard to find one that does not do them. I have a practice that I go to. The one that delivered Ivan. They have a midwife there. She was the reason that I was referred to the practice. Turns out that they thought I needed a c-section and I was not thrilled with the midwife's personality anyway. I am not thrilled with any of them. They are a bit cold and always in a hurry to get on with it.

I would try LLL on Wed. except for the fact that I was told by my old LLL leader that I was not allowed to talk about circumcision at LLL meetings, only breastfeeding. Yep, no circ, no sex, no religion, no nothing except breastfeeding.

Legally no, but it happens often enough that anyone who has a son in a hospital needs to watch him like a hawk.

Ivan's Mom, I hope you're sucessful in finding someone with the ethical fortitude to put his or her foot down and refuse to commit this atrocity. I don't blame you for not wanting to support such a thing.

Of course it is elective. I am just looking for an doctor with ethics. I certainly "elected" not to have my precious child cut. Doctors have the right and choice to not offer circumcision. This is the type of doctor I want to go to in the future.

Thank you for understanding.

My midwife group works with an OB that is VERY nice and nocirc. I met him onece before my homebirth and he was really easy to talk to. I can't remember hisi name - but if you give a call or an email to my midwifes practice I am sure they'll happily point you in the right direction. The entire office won't even take patients that want to circ for non religious reasons. They love me because I was their first jewish no-circ mom.

This topic is now dead.

I called the recommended people and all have told me that there is no OB GYN that refuses to do circumcision. They would "put themselves out of business."
: What a sad sad state of affairs.
