So, I have been sick since saturday with fever, aches, headaches, and a severe sore throat with visibly swollen lymph nodes. I am 99% sure I have tonsillitis, but now need to figure out if it is viral or bacterial. To complicate things I am allergic to NSAIDS and Tylenol so I cant take anything for the severe sore throat. If it is bacterial, would you take the antibiotics or try to let it run its course? Thanks!

If it was diagnosed strep throat, I would take the antibiotics to prevent some of the nasty secondary effects of strep throat that can happen (rheumatic fever sort of stuff.)

I would check the antibiotics out with Hale's book, and ask for one that would 1) kill the strp and 2) is fine while nursing.

Most abx are fine while nursing. I took a Z-pack last year for strep. If you have strep, I'd absolutely take them. I'd also take plenty of pro-biotics, to avoid getting thrush, while you're on the abx.
