I'm Kristi and my dh and I are ttc NOW. We're moving to Riverside/San Bernardino in May and I'm looking for like-minded friends! We're planning to have a homebirth and I'd really love to have a UP/UC waterbirth. I'm hoping to meet other mama's who've done that before or who are planning to do it! I have NO truly supportive friends here and my dh is only so "into" it. Any takers?

Hi Kristi! I'm in Corona, on the western border of the IE. We had a birth center water birth, and it was amazing. We have a very active ap group here! Here's the link: groups.yahoo.com/apinlandempire. There are lots of wonderful mamas in the group, most of whom have wonderful homebirth stories.

What city are you moving to? I look forward to meeting you soon!

Hi Erica! We're probably moving to Riverside, so we'll be next door neighbors! My dh will be transferring to a school in Riverside and we'll be getting a place with a friend (named Erica, btw!) from there, so it seems to make sense.

Since we just recently started ttc, I'm only now studying parenting styles and pregnancy issues now. I'm really interested in AP parenting, and although I probably won't adopt all the AP stances on things, I would classify myself as AP more than anything else. Do you think I'd be welcome in AP groups, etc. if I'm not on board 100%? My differences will be pretty minor, but you never know.

My dream would be to have a UC homebirth. I'm trying to build up courage and get healthy so this can happen for us (oh yeah, and I'm trying to convince dh!), but I'm really excited. That's one reason I want to meet mamas who've gone a non-hospital route.

I love reading birth stores, and I'll probably check on the IEAP group on Yahoo. Thanks a bunch!

Hi Kristi,
I'm in Pomona, which is about as far along the western IE boarder as you can get! Basically, I'm approximately 30 miles west of Riverside. I was an unplanned UC -- waterbirth. I got my dh to agree to a homebirth, but he didn't feel comfortable going UC. Kinda funny, as ds came faster than my MW anticipated and arrived about 30 minutes before she did.

Anyway, feel free to pm me. I'm usually on during work hours... :

Hi Kristi! Like Rikki Jean said ... AP isn't a checklist ... it's about being responsive and respectful with our children. It's about communication and connection. At least that's how I see it. How I've *come* to see it. I also don't see it as being just for the babywearing/breastfeeding/bedsharing years. I think it goes deeper and is for a lifetime. It's about relationship!

The http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SoCalAPFamilies group also has some folks in the Inland Empire and Riverside.

One group's been mentioned and I'll repeat it and list some others:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/APInlandEmpire
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/APPomonaValley (for someone who posted they'rein Pomona, I think)
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IEAH -- homeschooling group
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IEAPH -- homeschooling group

I've heard such wonderful things about the APIE group!

Two other avenues for meeting mamas who've gone off the mainstream path as far as birth:

---La Leche League
http://www.lllusa.org/web/RiversideCA.html

---ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network)
http://ican-online.org
http://www.freewebs.com/ieican/ -- Inland Empire Chapter

Don't let the "cesarean" part throw you off. It's a great mother support organization, helping women learn their many birth choices that the doctors often won't get into. It's a great network full of people who know the resources available -- the birthing centers, the birth attendants, the more natural-leaning practitioners, etc.

Hope your pregnancy and move go outstandingly!
